Job Description:

Penn Mutual's Summer Actuarial Internship offers a dynamic and immersive experience for students pursuing a career in actuarial science. This 11-week, paid, primarily remote internship provides hands-on exposure to actuarial work across several practice areas, including product development, financial management, risk management, and actuarial analytics. Interns will apply quantitative skills to real business challenges while gaining insight into the operations of a leading mutual life insurance company.

Program Highlights

  • Executive Leadership Engagement = Participate in exclusive sessions with key members of Penn Mutual's executive team to gain insight into the company's strategy, leadership philosophy, and the future of the insurance industry.
  • Dedicated Onsite Week = Connect with fellow interns and actuarial leaders during an immersive week-long onsite experience in Conshohocken, PA, gaining firsthand exposure to Penn Mutual's culture and insights into the actuarial profession.
  • Technical Skill Development = Receive training and practical exposure to actuarial, analytical, and business technology platforms, including emerging AI-enabled tools and other innovative technologies used across the organization.
  • Department Information Sessions = Learn directly from actuarial teams through structured information sessions across key business areas.
  • Mentorship Program = Be paired with experienced actuarial professionals for guidance, support, and career development.
  • Presentation & Communication Skills = Build confidence through opportunities to present both formally and informally to peers and professionals.

Responsibilities:

  • Support actuarial analyses related to key business initiatives within product development, financial management, and risk management.
  • Compile, validate, and analyze data for actuarial studies, experience analyses, and management reporting.
  • Assist with actuarial calculations, financial projections, reserve analyses, and other analytical projects.
  • Document methodologies, assumptions, and results to support actuarial models and business decision-making.
  • Collaborate with teammates and business partners while contributing toward shared team goals and objectives.

Skills:

  • Actuarial exams are not required for program eligibility; however, progress toward actuarial credentialing is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet individual and team objectives.
  • Demonstrated initiative through learning new skills, solving problems, and contributing new ideas.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills.

Required Experience:

  • Working towards a degree with a major/concentration in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or a related discipline. Business coursework is a plus.

About the program:

  • Duration: 11-week summer internship
  • Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Pay rate: $25.00–$28.00 per hour, depending on the number of exams passed
  • Remote environment which includes a dedicated onsite week to meet and collaborate with the Actuarial team in-person
