Systems Administrator II or Senior / Unix Change Coordinator & Implementation Analyst

Job Summary

The Unix Change Coordinator and Implementation Analyst is responsible for coordinating enterprise Unix/Linux patching activities, vulnerability remediation, change management, compliance reporting, and operational governance across the FIS infrastructure environment. This role serves as a key coordination point for monthly and emergency patching cycles, implementation tracking, stakeholder communication, reporting, and audit support, while ensuring alignment with ITIL processes and organizational compliance standards.

The position requires close collaboration with Unix administrators, application owners, infrastructure teams, security teams, Lines of Business, and change management teams to ensure patching activities are planned, implemented, validated, and documented effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Change Coordination & Implementation

  • Coordinate monthly and emergency Unix/Linux patch implementation activities across the enterprise environment.
  • Plan patching schedules and maintain implementation calendars to support operational readiness.
  • Create, track, and manage change requests in accordance with approved change management procedures.
  • Coordinate outage windows, bridge calls, approvals, and implementation tasks with relevant teams.
  • Provide timely status updates throughout patch implementation windows.
  • Track patch implementation outcomes, including successful completions, failures, cancellations, and remediation actions.
  • Ensure implementation documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with governance requirements.

Patching Operations Support

  • Support enterprise Unix/Linux patching activities and assist with implementation coordination.
  • Coordinate with infrastructure and application teams to confirm patch readiness and validation requirements.
  • Monitor implementation progress and escalate risks, blockers, or delays as required.
  • Support post-patch validation activities, including operational health checks and follow-up actions.
  • Maintain accurate patching schedules, implementation trackers, and server inventory details.

Vulnerability & Compliance Management

  • Support vulnerability remediation by coordinating patch deployment using approved patch baselines.
  • Track vulnerability remediation progress, compliance status, and related operational metrics.
  • Assist in maintaining enterprise patch compliance targets and remediation timelines.
  • Prepare compliance reports and leadership dashboards to support operational reviews.
  • Monitor exception management activities and track remediation actions to closure.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Develop and maintain operational reports using Microsoft Excel and other reporting tools.
  • Create dashboards, charts, and presentations for leadership and operational review meetings.
  • Analyze patching trends, compliance performance, and implementation effectiveness.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and executive-level status reports with clear insights and action items.
  • Support audit reporting, governance reviews, and evidence collection activities.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Manage communications with application owners, business stakeholders, and technical teams.
  • Provide implementation notifications, progress updates, completion summaries, and follow-up communications.
  • Facilitate effective communication during patch windows, bridge calls, and incident situations.
  • Support leadership reviews, operational meetings, and stakeholder discussions with accurate updates.

Service Management & Governance

  • Ensure adherence to ITIL-based service management and operational governance processes.
  • Support incident, problem, and change management processes, including documentation and follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate implementation records, operational documentation, and audit evidence.
  • Assist with operational risk assessments, exception reviews, and governance-related follow-up actions.

Server Onboarding & Service Enablement

  • Coordinate the onboarding of new servers into the CVPI patching service.
  • Validate patch readiness, tooling availability, ownership details, and inventory alignment.
  • Coordinate onboarding requests with application owners and infrastructure teams to ensure service readiness.
  • Support lifecycle management activities related to patching services and operational support.

Automation & Continuous Improvement

  • Support patch automation initiatives and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Assist with automated reporting, data collection, and operational tracking activities.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities to increase efficiency, reduce manual effort, and improve reporting accuracy.
  • Support BigFix, Red Hat Satellite, and related patch management platforms where applicable.

Required Qualifications

Experience

  • 5–10 years of experience in IT services, infrastructure support, or enterprise operations environments.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with ITIL processes, service management practices, vulnerability management, and patch management activities.

Mandatory Skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including:
    • VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
    • Pivot Tables
    • Charts and Dashboards
    • Data Analysis and Reporting
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent documentation, presentation, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide clear operational updates.
  • Basic understanding of Unix/Linux operating systems, distributions, and version management.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL processes and service management governance.
  • Experience using change management, service delivery, and operational tracking tools.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders, implementation activities, timelines, and priorities effectively.

Preferred Skills

  • Hands-on experience with ServiceNow or similar IT service management platforms.
  • Experience in change management, project coordination, or service management functions.
  • Exposure to Unix/Linux system administration and enterprise infrastructure support.
  • Knowledge of vulnerability management, compliance tracking, and remediation processes.
  • Experience supporting enterprise patch management processes and implementation governance.
  • Understanding of automation tools, operational reporting platforms, and process improvement methods.

Preferred Certifications

  • ITIL Foundation Certification.
  • Linux/Unix certifications are an added advantage.
