Job Description
We are looking for a talented AI Engineer to join our AI Engineering squad as we scale our in-house artificial intelligence capability across Shawbrook Bank.
You will join at a pivotal stage of our AI transformation, as we move from experimentation and proof-of-concept initiatives into production-grade AI systems that deliver measurable business value across lending, deposits, operations, risk, and customer experience. Working in close partnership with our AI Product Manager, and alongside other AI Engineers and the AI Engineering Lead, you will help design, build, and ship AI solutions within a regulated banking environment.
This is a hands-on role for a strong engineer who is excited about building with AI. You'll work across our AI products and shared platform capabilities, getting hands-on with LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and modern AI tooling. You’ll be starting with well-scoped work and growing towards owning features end-to-end, with support from experienced engineers around you.
Key Responsibilities
Build, test, and ship features across our AI products and shared platform capabilities, progressing from well-scoped tasks towards larger slices of work.
Work hands-on with LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and AI tooling, with support from senior engineers.
Build a good working understanding of our AI platform and applications, with growing awareness of other domains across the Bank (lending, data, risk, and operations)
Contribute to the controls production AI depends on (evaluation, observability, testing, and CI/CD).
Help integrate AI services with other systems and data sources through well-designed APIs.
Take an active part in code review and pairing, growing towards end-to-end ownership.
Apply responsible-AI practices within a regulated environment.
Support engineers in the wider Shawbrook Engineering department with AI adoption and upskilling.
Work within an agile, cross-functional squad to deliver iteratively and aligned to business value.
Qualifications
Essential
Confident building and maintaining backend services and APIs, ideally in Python or .NET, with good testing and version-control practices.
You have worked with AI programmatically, for example building with LLM APIs, machine learning, or AI-driven projects (professional, academic, or personal).
Some experience with a major cloud platform, preferably Azure.
Keen to take on more responsibility over time and grow into owning work end-to-end.
A friendly teammate who enjoys learning and working with others.
Relevant academic background in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline.
Nice to have
Experience delivering AI/ML in a production environment.
Professional certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., Azure AI Engineer Associate) would be beneficial.
Background in machine learning engineering/operations.
Interest in developing a broad skillset across AI, backend, and frontend engineering.
Experience in regulated environments.
