Nationwide Building Society (NBS) · Bank

Closes in 18 days — 31 Aug 2026

As a member of our Economic Crime Risk & Compliance function, you’ll play a key role in strengthening our understanding of financial crime risk across the Society. Using your financial crime and technical expertise, you’ll use data to provide independent insight into the effectiveness of our controls and support the ongoing evolution of our approach to managing economic crime.

This role sits within our Economic Crime Innovation – Analytics & Insight team in the second line of defence. The team’s aim is to provide a data-led view of the Economic Crime control environment, supporting oversight, insight, and constructive challenge across a broad range of financial crime risks and controls.

Your success isn’t based on how long you spend at your desk. You’ll have contracted hours, but we’re always happy to support flexible working wherever we can. That might mean working from home or different Nationwide offices or agreeing a working pattern to help you balance work and life. We will always strive to find a way that works for everyone.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.

The working hours (per week) for this role can be between 28 and 35 hours.

This is a 12-month secondment opportunity.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this role, you'll be based at your nearest regional office or hub. We value time spent together to connect with colleagues for collaboration so there will be a regular requirement to attend our Swindon or London site approximately once per quarter. If you are based at an office location, you'll be expected to meet our hybrid working requirement of at least two days a week, or 40% of your working time if part-time, in the office. If you’re based at our Glasgow office, this will apply from 1 April 2027 and ahead of that there will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.

Nationwide is committed to the redeployment of our employees impacted by change, as such applications for redeployment candidates will be prioritised in this recruitment process.

If you’re a colleague on long-term absence (for example, on parental leave) or a temporary worker, please use your personal email address to submit an application.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll contribute to the development of a stronger, more insight-led second line view of economic crime risk, using data to better understand how controls are operating in practice across the Society.

You’ll use your analytical skills to review and challenge first line financial crime controls, providing an independent, evidence-based perspective on their effectiveness and highlighting areas where further development or refinement may be required.

Alongside this, you’ll develop and apply analytics that provide a clearer second line view of control effectiveness, emerging risk, and areas requiring challenge or further investigation. This will include exploring data across different control points, identifying patterns, trends and emerging risks, and translating these into meaningful insight for second line stakeholders.

You’ll work with large datasets using tools such as SQL, SAS or Python to carry out detailed analysis, bringing together customer activity, control outputs and wider data sources to build a more complete view of financial crime risk.

You’ll support the use of data across the wider Economic Crime Risk & Compliance (ECRC) function, helping to improve how insight is generated, shared and used to inform decision making.

You’ll also explore how artificial intelligence can be used responsibly to help us better understand economic crime risk, identify emerging patterns and opportunities for insight, and strengthen the way we assess and challenge the control environment.

You’ll engage with colleagues across both first and second line functions, building effective relationships to support constructive dialogue, whilst maintaining appropriate independence in your role as part of the second line.

You’ll contribute to the ongoing development of analytical approaches within the team, helping to develop new analytical approaches that strengthen second line oversight and improve understanding of economic crime risk and control performance.
