Position Summary
We are looking for an experienced and motivated finance professional to join our Real Assets Finance team in Luxembourg.
The Luxembourg team plays a key role within Carlyle's Real Assets platform, supporting 5 SICARs and more than 140 Luxembourg holding and property companies and working closely with investment, legal, tax, treasury and fund accounting teams across Europe and the US.
This role offers significantly more than traditional accounting. The successful candidate will gain broad exposure to the full lifecycle of Real Assets investments, from acquisitions and financing transactions through ongoing portfolio activity, distributions, restructurings and exits.
Working in an international and fast-paced environment, the Assistant Manager will take ownership of a portfolio of Luxembourg entities and will be involved in hands-on accounting, financial reporting, tax, investment transactions, regulatory matters and continuous improvement initiatives.
The role provides a high level of autonomy and direct interaction with multiple internal and external stakeholders, making it an excellent opportunity for someone looking to broaden their technical expertise, develop their understanding of investment structures and progressively take on greater responsibilities within the organisation.
Primary Responsibilities
Accounting, Transactions & Financial Management
· Prepare accounting and bookkeeping records for internally managed entities, as well as the Luxembourg statutory financial statements.
· Review financial statements and accounting deliverables submitted by external service providers.
· Oversee the accuracy and completeness of accounting records across all managed entities, including periodic quality checks on accounting entries and adherence to internal accounting standards.
· Monitor and reconcile intercompany balances and transactions.
· Review invoices and supporting documentation prior to payment.
· Coordinate and review deal-related cash flows and investment transactions.
· Prepare and review distribution calculations, including debt instrument and share redemption calculations.
· Support monthly and periodic financial reporting to the Fund Accounting team in Washington DC.
· Maintain a high standard of accuracy and take ownership of the quality of deliverables submitted for management review.
Investment Transactions & Deal Support
The role provides direct exposure to investment activity across the Real Assets platform.
· Support the Manager and wider team on new investments, financing transactions, restructurings, distributions and exits.
· Review the accounting implications of investment transactions throughout the Luxembourg structure.
· Analyse legal and transaction documentation from a finance and accounting perspective.
· Work closely with the Luxembourg Legal team to ensure transactions are appropriately understood, documented and reflected in the accounting records.
· Coordinate with external accounting providers to ensure complex investment transactions are correctly implemented.
· Participate in investment structuring and transaction closing processes.
Tax, Regulatory & Audit
· Coordinate the preparation and review of direct and indirect tax returns prepared by external tax advisors.
· Work closely with tax advisors and internal stakeholders on Luxembourg tax matters affecting portfolio entities.
· Review periodic regulatory reporting to the Banque Centrale du Luxembourg (BCL) submitted by external service providers.
· Coordinate year-end audits and act as a key point of contact for auditors under the supervision of the Manager.
· Support the timely resolution of audit, tax and regulatory queries.
Stakeholder Management
The Assistant Manager will interact with a broad range of stakeholders across the organisation and externally, including Luxembourg Finance, Legal and Treasury teams; European investment and business teams; US Fund Accounting and Finance teams; external accountants; tax advisors; auditors; and other professional service providers.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop strong working relationships, communicate effectively and proactively follow up on outstanding matters.
Projects, Continuous Improvement & Technology
The Assistant Manager will contribute to the continued improvement of the Luxembourg Finance function, combining strong accounting fundamentals with a practical interest in process improvement, technology and automation.
· Participate in finance, accounting and operational improvement projects, including selected initiatives using tools such as ChatGPT and Claude, in accordance with applicable internal policies, governance and data-security requirements.
· Contribute, where relevant, to the creation and testing of reusable AI skills, prompts or workflows supporting Finance activities.
· Help identify recurring manual activities that can be simplified, standardised or automated.
· Participate in the enhancement and automation of Excel-based reporting files, reconciliations, controls and recurring data-processing activities.
· Support the implementation and testing of new Finance tools and processes, validating outputs from an accounting and control perspective.
· Contribute to scalable processes and practical solutions supporting the continued growth of the Real Assets platform.
· Assist with ad-hoc projects and analyses depending on business needs.
Candidate Profile
Education
University degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
Professional Experience
· Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience, ideally within alternative investments, real estate, private equity, fund administration, fiduciary services or a similar environment.
· Good understanding of the Luxembourg accounting and legal environment.
· Strong knowledge of Lux GAAP; knowledge of IFRS would be an advantage.
· Experience with Luxembourg holding and investment structures would be an advantage.
· Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
· Experience with Demasy or other accounting/ERP systems would be an advantage.
· An interest in process improvement, automation and emerging Finance technologies is an advantage; prior AI experience is not required.
· Fluent English is required; French and/or German would be an advantage.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who combines strong technical foundations with curiosity and a practical approach.
· A strong sense of ownership and responsibility.
· The ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a team.
· A hands-on and pragmatic approach to solving problems.
· Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
· The ability to understand transactions beyond their accounting entries and see the broader economic and legal context.
· The ability to prioritise and manage several workstreams simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
· Confidence in interacting with senior colleagues and internal and external stakeholders.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to continuously learn and develop.
· A proactive mindset, identifying issues and potential solutions rather than simply escalating problems.
· An interest in technology, process improvement and the evolving Finance environment.
The Opportunity

The role combines hands-on accounting, investment transactions, tax, financial reporting and project work, providing exposure well beyond a traditional accounting position.
