About your role
As an Assistant Manager / Manager in the Global Tax CoE team, you will play a key role in supporting FIL entities across Japan and selected jurisdictions, ensuring the effective delivery of tax compliance, tax accounting, tax reporting and tax risk management activities.

You will be responsible for managing end-to-end tax activities, including statutory tax filings, tax reporting, tax accounting and reconciliations, tax audits and enquiries, tax authority interactions and tax technical analysis. The role requires the application of sound professional judgement to ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements and FIL’s internal control framework.

Working within a global operating model, you will collaborate closely with onshore and offshore stakeholders across Finance, Tax and other corporate functions to deliver high-quality outcomes, strengthen tax governance, and support continuous process improvements across multiple jurisdictions.

About you

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely and accurate tax filings in compliance with local regulations and internal policies
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors on annual tax compliance activities and other tax- related matters
  • Lead and respond to tax audits, inspections, and inquiries from authorities
  • Perform tax account reconciliations and ensure accurate booking of tax-related nominal accounts
  • Provide timely analysis and resolution of tax issues identified during operations or audits
  • Prepare supporting documentation for tax filings, including schedules, reports, and reconciliations ensuring completeness and accuracy
  • Provide tax advisory and ad hoc support to internal stakeholders on tax-related matters
  • Collaborate closely with the APAC Tax and finance teams, and local stakeholders to support the effective delivery of tax activities
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with tax authorities and support interactions on tax-related matters
  • Drive process improvements, standardization, and automation initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of tax activities

Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • Strong experience in tax or finance roles with exposure to Japan entities, preferably within a multinational or shared services environment
  • Good understanding of Japan tax regulations and compliance requirements
  • Experience supporting tax compliance, tax reporting, and tax audit activities
  • Ability to analyze tax issues and apply practical solutions
  • Strong attention to details and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management, with the ability to work effectively across different functions, locations, and cultures
  • Experience driving process improvements and automation initiatives
  • Proactive, accountable, and solution-oriented mindset
  • Fluent English and Japanese (essential)
  • Professional accounting or tax qualification (e.g., CPA, CTA) is preferred
