Job Description

Corporate Communications & Marketing aims to protect and build Ares’s brand and reputation. It is the core function that coordinates all internal and external communications including employee newsletters and townhalls, media relations, advertising, branding, content and social media strategy 


Ares is seeking a highly motivated and entrepreneurial communications professional to join the Corporate Communications & Marketing team as an Associate in Hong Kong. This person will be responsible for supporting the external communications function, including the promotion and protection of the Ares brand across APAC. A strong track record of effective media relations and working with senior stakeholders are critical for success in this role. 
 
Primary Functions & Essential Responsibilities

Support media engagement, issues management, and drafting written communications: 

  • Manage inbound media requests and coordinate with internal stakeholders to provide timely responses

  • Proactively develop storylines, pitch to relevant media in line with leadership team priorities, and arrange media interviews and background meetings

  • Identify and secure external speaking engagements and high-profile media opportunities

  • Build and strengthen Ares’ network of media relationships across key publications in APAC, and maintain a journalist contact database

  • Draft communications (press releases, media talking points, Q&As, communications plans, briefing documents, etc.) and manage internal and external review processes

  • Manage, organize and prioritize multiple tasks to meet business-critical deadlines

  • Support media engagement tracking and reporting, conduct competitor analyses, and assist with press release distribution and industry awards submissions, as needed

  • Deliver fresh ideas, solicit feedback, build consensus and drive results

  • Serve as a trusted advisor and strategic counselor to Ares’ leadership teams

  • Support portfolio companies on communications matters, as needed

 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum of 3 years of corporate communications experience, either in-house or at a strategic communications firm

  • Understanding of and experience in the asset management and/or broader financial services industry

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to edit/proof content and context in both English and Chinese

  • Experience tracking and measuring results to ensure they are in line with intended outcomes

  • Good interpersonal and networking skills and the ability to work with cross-functional, multicultural teams and agency partners

  • Self-motivated team player with the ability to execute under limited oversight and tight deadlines
