Associate – Digital Product Management

The Global Risk & Compliance team is seeking a highly motivated Associate, Digital Product Management to join the Financial Crimes Products & Capabilities team and support several high-impact modernization initiatives.

In this role, you will help advance critical capabilities across Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) journeys, including the modernization of our Customer Risk Rating engine, development of our data strategy, and broader enterprise transformation efforts. You will work across Product, Technology, Compliance, and Data teams to strengthen American Express' Financial Crimes capabilities and help build scalable, modern platforms that support our risk management objectives.

As an Associate, you will help deliver the modernization of enterprise wide KYC platform, support legacy system decommissioning, and contribute to the development of a unified data layer that will serve as a foundation for Financial Crimes platforms.

You will partner closely with teams across Lines of Business, Compliance, Data Governance, Platforms, and Technology to align priorities and execute modernization roadmaps.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Translate business needs and requirements into clearly defined product capabilities, features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Manage and prioritize the product backlog in partnership with Product, Technology, and business stakeholders.
  • Drive alignment across stakeholders on product, delivery, and data decisions, balancing trade-offs, dependencies, and enterprise impact.
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies and partner with cross-functional teams to identify challenges, evaluate solutions, and support successful delivery.
  • Analyze data, query data sets, and develop data mapping specifications to support system integrations, migrations, and data sourcing requirements.
  • Partner with use-case owners and stakeholders to deliver end-to-end products and capabilities while identifying opportunities, dependencies, and gaps.
  • Support legacy platform decommissioning and modernization roadmaps, including milestone and dependency tracking.
  • Facilitate cross-functional working sessions, document decisions, and ensure clear ownership and follow-through on action items.
  • Support multi-market rollout coordination, including international expansion of high-risk KYC Refresh capabilities.
  • Communicate the value, progress, and impact of shared platform capabilities to leadership and partner teams.

Qualifications

Must-Have Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in product management, product analysis, business analysis, or a related role.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience gathering and documenting requirements, including user stories, product requirements, and acceptance criteria.
  • Experience working with platforms, infrastructure, data, or other technically complex products.
  • Ability to identify and manage cross-team dependencies, trade-offs, and competing priorities.
  • Experience with Agile delivery methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe.
  • Familiarity with product and delivery tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clear documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and develop clear narratives and presentations for senior leaders.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data migration, data analysis, or platform modernization initiatives.
  • Technical fluency with data flows, APIs, system integrations, and modern platform architectures.
  • Experience with data strategy, data quality, data governance, or related data management disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, Database design or similar data querying and analytical tools.
  • Familiarity with dashboarding, reporting, or data visualization tools.

 

Nice to Have

We do not expect candidates to be experts in all the following areas. We are looking for someone who is curious, technically minded, and eager to continue developing their skills alongside the team.

  • Familiarity with Financial Crimes domains such as AML, KYC/EDD, sanctions screening, Customer Risk Rating, or transaction monitoring.
  • Interest in AI-assisted product workflows.
  • Experience with GCP or other modern data and analytics platforms.
  • Experience with software development or technical product management.
  • Willingness to learn new tools and technology
