Audit Manager – Technology, Operational Resilience & Applicationsnew

Nationwide Building Society (NBS) · Bank

We are looking for an experienced Audit Manager to join Internal Audit and lead assurance activity across Technology, Operational Resilience and applications.

You will deliver timely, high-quality and impactful audits that assess how effectively Nationwide manages technology and operational resilience risks. You will use your audit and subject matter expertise to identify key control weaknesses, their root causes and practical actions that strengthen governance, risk management and customer outcomes.

This is an opportunity to influence senior stakeholders, develop colleagues and help shape a forward-looking assurance approach in areas that are critical to the continued security and availability of services for our members.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.

The working hours (per week) for this role can be between 28 and 35 hours.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon, London or Glasgow office. If you’re based at our Glasgow office, this will apply from 1 April 2027 and ahead of that there will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here

If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

What you’ll be doing

As an Audit Manager, you'll lead the planning, scoping and delivery of risk-based audits across Technology and Operational Resilience, working closely with other audit teams on integrated audits covering application controls. You'll ensure audits are delivered to the highest quality standards, on time, within budget and in line with Internal Audit methodology.

You'll assess the effectiveness of governance, risk management and controls across technology operations, operational resilience, and continuity and recovery arrangements. Using your specialist knowledge and data-led insights, you'll identify emerging risks, control themes and opportunities to strengthen the resilience and security of critical services, producing clear, evidence-based audit findings and reports that drive meaningful action.

Working collaboratively across the business, you'll build trusted stakeholder relationships, provide constructive challenge and influence practical, sustainable outcomes. You'll use sound judgement to navigate delivery challenges, competing priorities and differing viewpoints, while supporting the development of colleagues through coaching and feedback that fosters a high-performing, inclusive team culture.

Alongside audit delivery, you'll contribute to audit planning, portfolio risk assessments, business-led projects and committees, and support the continual improvement of Internal Audit practices.

About you

You are an experienced auditor, technology risk or assurance professional with the confidence to lead complex reviews and communicate clearly with senior stakeholders. You combine strong audit judgement with relevant technical knowledge and can rapidly understand complex environments, identify the most significant risks and translate detailed findings into meaningful business insight.

As a minimum, you'll need to have:

  • Demonstrable audit or control assurance experience in technology or operational resilience, ideally within financial services or another regulated environment. You will have a strong understanding of at least one of the following: technology infrastructure, technology service availability, incident and crisis management, technology change management, operational resilience, business continuity, IT disaster recovery and application controls.
  • Experience leading assurance engagements from planning and scoping through fieldwork, issue agreement and final reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience producing clear, comprehensive and concise audit documentation and reports.
  • Proven stakeholder management, influencing, negotiation and facilitation skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and agree actions with senior leaders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organisational and planning skills, with the ability to balance conflicting priorities and deploy resources effectively.
  • Experience coaching, managing or developing others and providing clear, timely feedback.

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
