Job Summary:
As a Lead Credit Officer Vice President in Business Banking Risk, you oversee, manage, and make credit decisions for new and existing extensions of credit across the Business Banking line of business. You will evaluate opportunities end-to-end—from due diligence and risk identification to structuring terms and negotiating documentation—while applying sound credit judgment and policy expertise.
You will also synthesize quantitative and qualitative insights, translate business needs into clear requirements and stories, and communicate portfolio themes to senior Risk forums. This role provides the opportunity to influence credit strategy, strengthen portfolio performance, and help ensure robust risk governance across the business.
Job Responsibilities:
- Analyze and decide credit requests for new and existing credit extensions
- Prepare and challenge quantitative and qualitative credit analyses to ensure accuracy and sound judgment
- Structure transactions by reviewing terms, negotiating conditions, and recommending risk mitigants
- Conduct due diligence and identify key risks across a range of Business Banking client relationships
- Gather business requirements and write clear business and technical stories for management consumption
- Assess market conditions, competitor actions, financial metrics, and regulatory factors to inform decisions
- Manage and analyze large datasets related to credit exposures and portfolio trends
- Escalate emerging credit risks and issues appropriately to relevant business areas and stakeholders
- Collaborate with model risk and analytics partners to support documentation, credible challenge, and approvals
- Develop portfolio deep dives and deliver presentations for senior Risk forums to support governance and decisions
- Provide guidance on credit product structure and terms to balance growth objectives with prudent risk standards
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Advanced coursework/training in finance, accounting, and credit (bank program or college coursework)
- 5+ years of experience as a relationship manager, Credit Officer, or similar role requiring commercial credit judgment
- Demonstrated ability to formulate objective credit views grounded in rigorous analysis
- Strong working knowledge of credit philosophy and policies and underwriting best practices
- Working knowledge of loan documentation, bankruptcy concepts, and related legal considerations
- Proven capability to analyze complex financial and risk information and identify key drivers and mitigants
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presenting findings to senior stakeholders
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and sound controls mindset
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment while assuming individual accountability for decisions
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- Graduate degree in business (MBA or equivalent)
- Experience developing portfolio insights and presenting to senior governance forums
- Track record of driving process improvements in underwriting, monitoring, or risk decisioning
