Business Unit / Role Specific Information
Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) brings together American Express' merchant and network-related businesses. GMNS supports millions of merchants worldwide and manages relationships with partners across the global payments ecosystem. As part of the GMNS Data Office, the Data Management team helps drive trusted, high-quality data that enables better business decisions, supports regulatory compliance, strengthens risk management, and improves operational effectiveness.
The team partners with business, technology, risk, and governance organizations to improve data quality, define critical data assets, establish data ownership, and support enterprise data management practices across GMNS.
How Will You Make an Impact in This Role?
- Develop an understanding of data management/governance, and data quality practices within a global financial services organization.
- Support initiatives focused on data quality, data ownership, metadata management, and critical data element governance.
- Research data, data usage, and data issues while working across teams, and provide insights that help improve business processes and decision-making.
- Assist with the documentation of business requirements, data lineage, controls, and governance processes.
- Partner with business stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve data accuracy, consistency, and accessibility.
- Support reporting and dashboard development to monitor data quality and governance metrics.
- Participate in regulatory, operational risk, and data management initiatives across GMNS.
- Create presentations and executive-ready materials summarizing findings, recommendations, and project outcomes.
- Contribute to process improvement efforts that strengthen data controls and governance effectiveness.
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a full-time Master's degree program, with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex information and identify meaningful insights.
- Has worked with one or more data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau, or similar technologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project management capabilities with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Self-starter with strong attention to detail and a continuous learning mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Academic or professional experience in data management, data analytics, business analytics, information systems, computer science, finance, risk management, or a related field.
- Basic familiarity with data management/governance, data quality, metadata management, data lineage, or regulatory reporting concepts.
