Job Purpose
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Chubb Life Vietnam is a pivotal technology leadership role responsible for shaping the market’s technology agenda and enabling the next phase of digital, operational, and customer transformation. This is an opportunity to lead a high-impact technology organization, modernize critical platforms, strengthen engineering capability, and translate regional and global technology priorities into measurable business value for Vietnam.
The CTO will serve as the enterprise technology leader for Vietnam, accountable for technology strategy, platform delivery, operational resilience, information security, cybersecurity, data protection, regulatory compliance, and technology investment. Working across local, regional, and global stakeholders, the CTO will build momentum for change, strengthen trust in technology delivery, and create the modern engineering and operating capabilities needed to support sustainable growth.
Role & Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
- Lead platform engineering and IT operations to deliver scalable, resilient technology solutions that enable growth, transformation, and customer trust in Vietnam.
- Define and evolve technology vision, target architecture, and roadmap across digital channels, distribution, customer servicing, core systems, and integration.
- Build and lead a high-performing engineering organization, setting a high talent bar and developing leaders across engineering, QA, product management, and business analysis.
- Establish modern engineering practices, including Agile, DevOps, automation, observability, CI/CD, testing discipline, and appropriate use of AI in the software development lifecycle.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership through architecture decisions, design reviews, and practical problem-solving on complex delivery and platform challenges.
- Improve reliability, performance, incident response, and operational efficiency across critical platforms while balancing innovation, stability, risk, and compliance.
- Partner across local, regional, and global teams to align Vietnam priorities with Chubb Life technology direction and global platform strategy.
- Drive meaningful change by simplifying processes, modernizing platforms, improving speed-to-market, and strengthening customer and distributor experience.
Requirements
- 10+ years’ experience in the engineering of platform solutions and managing related initiatives in complex, multi-geography/business-line environments.
- At least 5 years in senior technology leadership (e.g., Head of Engineering, CTO, CIO, or equivalent), preferably with experience in a regulated industry.
- Strong technical foundation with recent hands-on software development (e.g., writing/reviewing code, designing systems) and the ability to engage deeply with engineers on architecture and implementation decisions.
- Hands-on experience deploying and operating applications on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including monitoring, scaling, and incident response.
- Practical experience with containerization and orchestration, and strong familiarity with Linux server fundamentals (e.g., processes, networking, storage, security).
- Proven experience across a wide range of technologies (operating systems, programming languages, cloud platforms, databases, integrations), and tooling, including the use of AI in the software development lifecycle.
- Experience in Insurance or Financial Services is strongly preferred.
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Computer Science, or Business/Finance; equivalent skills and experience will also be considered for strong candidates.
- Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and learning agility, with a track record of quickly mastering new technologies and domains.
Candidates will be asked to present a technical portfolio (e.g., architecture/design artefacts, code samples, contributions to products or platforms) and walk through systems design and trade-off decisions as part of the selection process.
Role Competencies
- Technical Acumen: Deep technology foundation in modern software engineering and platforms. Able to positively guide technical discussions, solution and architecture design, and operations decisions. Can explain technical concepts in clear, business-relevant language to both engineers and executives, and challenge proposals with credible, hands-on insight.
- Strategic Focus: Brings a long-term perspective to shape technology strategy, architecture, and platform evolution to support current and future business models. Communicates this strategy clearly to senior leaders and teams.
- Business Acumen: Applies technical expertise and domain knowledge to real business problems, balancing growth, efficiency, customer experience, and risk. - Influence: Operates effectively across local, regional, and global structures, using data, clear narratives, technical credibility, and relationship-building to align executives, peers, and teams. Builds coalitions across Vietnam, regional Life, Group technology, and global stakeholders to move complex initiatives forward without relying solely on formal authority.
- Change Leadership: Creates energy and alignment around transformation priorities, actively removes barriers, engages teams through ambiguity, and delivers practical, measurable change across technology, operations, and business functions.
- Execution: Drives disciplined execution of complex, cross-functional technology programs, from concept through deployment and operations. Uses clear goals, measurable outcomes, and regular communication of progress, risks, and trade-offs to ensure commitments are delivered.
- Inclusive Team Leadership: Fosters high collaboration within the technology organization and across Chubb, acting as “One Chubb.” Builds multi-disciplinary teams, maintains an active leadership presence, and creates an environment where different perspectives are integrated into decisions and delivery.
- Leadership: Sets an ethical example and is as a role model for Chubb values, even under pressure and ambiguity. Communicates candidly/constructively, makes difficult decisions visible and understandable to executives, peers, and teams.
