Marsh is seeking an experienced Claims Team Leader to join our Sydney office and lead a high-performing team delivering end-to-end claims management across a portfolio of casualty and property claims. This is a hands-on leadership role for a technically strong claims professional who enjoys solving complex problems, driving performance, and being the escalation point for high-impact matters.
We will count on you to:
- Lead and develop a small team overseeing day-to-day claims operations, workflow, and performance against agreed service levels.
- Manage a portfolio of complex casualty claims, including investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and achieving best outcomes.
- Provide coverage work and decision-making on claims for clients and insurers.
- Act as the key escalation point for complex claims and client complaints, ensuring timely resolution and clear stakeholder communication.
- Drive operational excellence, including contributing to process improvement, compliance, and internal audit activity (identifying gaps, implementing recommendations, and escalating breaches where needed).
- Build strong working relationships with stakeholders including claimants, insurers, underwriters, appointed experts, and internal teams.
What you need to have:
- Demonstrated experience in casualty and property claims.
- Proven people leadership/supervisory experience, with the ability to coach and develop others.
- Strong technical capability across coverage interpretation, claims strategy, negotiation and influencing.
- Confidence managing stakeholder expectations and communicating clearly in high-pressure situations.
- Strong working knowledge of relevant claims governance and best practice (e.g., Insurance Contracts Act 1984 (Cth) and General Insurance Code of Practice).
- A law qualification would be highly regarded.
