Job summary

As a German Product Advisory Tax Advisor in EMEA Corporate Tax – Product Advisory, you’ll advise on German withholding tax, tax reporting, and wider client and product tax topics that support our Private Bank and Chase (retail banking) businesses in Germany. Based in Frankfurt, you’ll work with product, operations, technology, and risk partners to translate technical tax requirements into clear guidance and effective controls. You’ll contribute to a supportive team culture, bringing a practical mindset, strong ethics, and a commitment to high-quality outcomes. This role reports to the local Head of Tax Germany. 

 

Job responsibilities

  • Advise the Germany business on withholding tax, reporting, and broader client and product tax considerations
  • Assess tax risks and provide practical guidance for products and transactions involving complex client circumstances, including investment products and securities transactions
  • Support new product and feature delivery from design through implementation by translating tax requirements into clear guidance for business and functional partners
  • Oversee German withholding tax processes, including filings, corrections, reclaims, client reporting, and disclosures
  • Identify material issues, support remediation plans, and advise process owners on tax risk and control enhancements
  • Advise on international tax reporting regimes, including the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) and the Common Reporting Standard (CRS), across products, operations, data, reporting, systems, and controls
  • Lead the tax workstream for audits and enquiries from German tax authorities
  • Manage external advisors where specialist input is required
  • Partner with regional colleagues to align technical positions and support consistent delivery across the Europe, Middle East and Africa region
  • Support implementation of European initiatives impacting withholding tax relief and reporting processes

 

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • German qualified tax advisor (Steuerberater) or equivalent qualification
  • Relevant experience in a law firm, accounting firm, or comparable in-house tax role
  • Strong knowledge of German withholding tax, with practical client and product tax experience
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse complex issues, exercise commercial judgment, and develop pragmatic solutions
  • Ability to explain tax issues and risks clearly to both tax specialists and non-specialist stakeholders
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining high technical and ethical standards
  • Fluent German with strong written and spoken English

 

Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Financial services client and product tax experience, particularly in private banking, wealth management, retail banking, and/or investment products
  • Experience connecting technical tax requirements to end-to-end customer journeys, processes, data, systems, and controls
