Optasia · Fintech & Payments
About Finergi
Finergi builds payment and technology services for utility payments across Africa. In Zambia, we run a technology platform for the sale and distribution of prepaid electricity tokens through mobile money and other channels, and provide the platform, integration and settlement services behind licensed payment partners and mobile money operators.
Our platform is hosted in-country and connects to the utility, mobile operators and banks. We're building a regulated payment business in Zambia, and we're looking for the people who will make it run.
About the role
You'll help us build and maintain a strong culture of compliance as we grow regulated payment services in Zambia and across the region. You'll be our day-to-day point of contact with regulators, the person business teams turn to for guidance, and a hands-on contributor to our financial crime controls.
The role covers payment systems, financial services, AML/CFT/CPF, sanctions, consumer protection and data protection — monitoring compliance, managing regulatory change, supporting transaction monitoring and keeping our fit and proper records in order.
You'll report to the Group Risk, Compliance & Assurance function and work closely with business, finance, technology and operations teams across the region.
What you'll do
■ Keep up to date with payment systems, financial services, AML/CFT and data protection laws, directives and guidance across the region, and monitor our compliance against them
■ Run structured compliance monitoring reviews, investigate irregularities and report findings to Group Risk, Compliance & Assurance
■ Act as our point of contact with payment systems, financial services, data protection and financial intelligence regulators, and help manage the impact of new rules and reporting obligations
■ Support transaction monitoring and payment screening — reviewing alerts, escalating suspicious activity, and preparing or quality-reviewing STRs and CTRs
■ Help develop and maintain AML/CFT/CPF, sanctions and customer due diligence policies and procedures
■ Coordinate periodic compliance and financial crime risk assessments with business units
■ Carry out due diligence on customers, service providers and partners, and report recommendations to management
■ Deliver compliance training, build training materials, and support compliance focal points across the business
■ Respond to regulator queries, prepare periodic compliance reporting, and maintain fit and proper records for senior officers — flagging promptly anything that could affect their status
■ Act as a regional point of reference on KYC, CDD, sanctions and financial crime matters, escalating where senior decisions are needed
What you'll bring
■ At least 5 years in compliance, financial crime, AML/CFT, sanctions or regulatory affairs within a bank, payment service provider or other regulated financial services business
■ At least 2 years at a senior or managerial level, with clear accountability for a compliance function
■ A bachelor's degree in law, accounting, finance, business or a related field
■ Working knowledge of fit and proper regimes, payment systems, financial services and AML/CFT/sanctions legislation across the region
■ Strong analytical, investigative and report-writing skills — able to write clearly for management and regulators
■ High integrity, sound judgement and attention to detail across multiple regulatory regimes
■ Able to work independently and manage several priorities at once
■ Excellent written and spoken English
■ Able to meet fit and proper requirements and provide the supporting documents (CV with referees, certified qualifications, ID, tax and police clearance)
Nice to have
■ A professional compliance, AML or risk qualification such as ICA, ACAMS or a recognised local equivalent
■ Experience in mobile money, utility payments or fintech
■ Multi-jurisdiction experience across Sub-Saharan Africa
■ A genuine commitment to financial inclusion
Why join
■ A role at the heart of building a regulated payment business
■ Regional exposure across multiple markets and regulators
■ Backed by an experienced Group risk and compliance team
■ A competitive package
