Computershare are currently looking to recruit a Core System Engineer to join one of our Global Development squads within Computershare Technology Services.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build or further develop a career in software engineering while working on business-critical systems that support financial operations around the world.

A role you will love 
 
As a Core System Engineer, you'll work closely with engineers, business analysts, and other technology professionals to support and enhance core business systems.

You'll be encouraged to develop your technical knowledge through a combination of structured learning, practical experience, and ongoing mentorship. Regular performance reviews and development discussions will help identify opportunities for growth and career progression.

Key responsibilities

  • Learn and develop proficiency in the COBOL programming language through structured training and on-the-job experience, including working with COBOL applications running on Linux systems.
  • Assist in the maintenance, enhancement, and support of business-critical core systems built predominantly in COBOL.
  • Collaborate with engineers and business analysts to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions.
  • Write, test, troubleshoot, and debug code to support high-quality software delivery.
  • Develop an understanding of modern software engineering practices, including the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), source control, automated testing, code reviews, and CI/CD processes.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement activities.
  • Document code, processes, and technical procedures as required.


What will you bring to the role? 
 
We're looking for someone who is curious, motivated, and enjoys solving problems. Who has an interest in software development and technology.

As well as being a good communicator who takes pride in their teamwork skills, you will have strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.

Other skills/experience required for the role:

  • Graduate in a relevant degree (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Engineering), or an ability to demonstrate strong logical problem-solving skills and aptitude for programming.
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to learn COBOL and develop software engineering skills.
  • A methodical approach to problem-solving.

Desirable skills:

  • Exposure to programming, scripting, databases, or software development concepts.
  • Familiarity with version control systems or collaborative development practices.
  • An interest in Linux environments and enterprise applications.
