Job Description:

Job Title: India Head of Architecture

Corporate Title: Director

Location: Pune, India

Subdivision and Team Overview

The DWS Architecture function defines, governs, and assures the target architecture across the global franchise. Within the future operating model, the India Architecture team will convert architecture direction into scalable engineering capabilities through Architecture as Code, reusable implementation assets, and AI-based automation. Its contribution will focus on embedding patterns and guardrails into engineering workflows and improving the quality, usability, and traceability of architecture information.

Role Description

As India Head of Architecture, you will lead the India-based architecture team and act as the senior point of contact for Architecture in India. Working in close alignment with the Global Chief Architect and architecture leaders across DWS, you will ensure high-quality delivery across architecture layers and domains. A particular focus will be architecture engineering and automation: improving architecture intelligence, implementing Architecture as Code, and building and maintaining production-ready patterns, guardrails, and reusable components that delivery teams can directly integrate. This includes the automated creation and updating of detailed, consistent, and traceable diagrams for current-state, target-state, transition, and project-specific architectures and designs, based on trusted architecture and technology data. In addition, you will apply AI-based automation to architecture deliverables, tollgates, controls, and evidence. You will promote consistent architecture outcomes, effective collaboration, appropriate escalation, and adherence to DWS standards, controls, and governance requirements.

Why This Role Matters

India is a strategic DWS technology location with deep architecture, engineering, and data expertise. This role will lead the transformation of the existing architecture capability in India, refocusing it on architecture engineering, Architecture as Code, and AI-based automation. It will strengthen the team’s contribution to DWS’s global architecture priorities and advance architecture intelligence, design automation, AI-enabled ways of working, and practical engineering enablement. The role offers broad interaction with senior stakeholders across technology, data, engineering, cybersecurity, risk, and control functions and will help improve how architecture work is produced, governed, evidenced, and scaled across DWS.

What we’ll offer you

As part of our flexible scheme, here are just some of the benefits that you’ll enjoy,

  • Best in class leave policy.

  • Gender neutral parental leaves

  • 100% reimbursement under childcare assistance benefit (gender neutral)

  • Sponsorship for Industry relevant certifications and education

  • Employee Assistance Program for you and your family members

  • Comprehensive Hospitalization Insurance for you and your dependents

  • Accident and Term life Insurance

  • Complementary Health screening for 35 yrs. and above

Your key responsibilities

  • Lead the India Architecture team through clear priorities, strong delivery management, coaching, and thought leadership, fostering effective cross-functional collaboration in India and across the global DWS Architecture community.

  • Build and maintain production-ready architecture patterns, automated guardrails, reference implementations, reusable components, architecture decision records, and solution design documentation that delivery engineering teams can directly use to accelerate compliant delivery, with proportionate human review and clear accountability.

  • Implement and continuously improve AI-based automation across the architecture lifecycle, covering architecture workflows, controls, evidence creation, decision logging, management information, and the generation of architecture deliverables.

  • Build and maintain trusted architecture intelligence by improving the quality, completeness, and usability of architecture repositories and enterprise technology data and by generating scoped, decision-ready landscape views and diagrams.

  • Advance risk-based architecture governance through automated tollgates and control checks, defined escalation triggers, and reliable evidence, reducing manual reviews and enabling governance to focus on material risk, exceptions, and expert judgment.

  • Establish and monitor clear delivery, quality, and effectiveness measures, including cycle-time reduction, automation coverage, repository data quality, reuse, exception rates, and assurance effectiveness.

  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders across technology, data, engineering, cybersecurity and other control functions to ensure that architecture deliverables meet applicable technology, data, control, and regulatory requirements and that material issues are escalated through the appropriate channels.

Must-have skills

  • Proven leadership experience managing teams of a similar scale (preferably 12+ people).

  • Experience leading organizational transformation or change initiatives.

  • Strong architecture background.

  • Demonstrated belief in and practical experience with AI and automation solutions.

Good-to-have skills

  • GCP experience.

  • Snowflake experience.

  • Specific technology/platform expertise, provided the candidate has equivalent cloud or data-platform experience such as AWS, Azure, or Databricks.

  • Financial services experience is preferred, particularly in regulated environments where governance and compliance considerations are important.

Your skills and experience

  • Extensive senior leadership experience across architecture, engineering, and governance, with accountability for delivery, controls, and transformation in a complex, international organization. Substantial financial-services experience is strongly preferred.

  • Proven ability to transform an established architecture capability, supporting teams as they build new skills and evolve their ways of working toward Architecture as Code, production-ready reusable engineering assets, and AI-enabled automation, while maintaining strong delivery and collaboration across a global organization; experience leading comparable transformations in India is advantageous.

  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with a track record of working effectively with senior technology, data, engineering, and control function stakeholders, resolving complex trade-offs, and driving adoption across organizational boundaries.

  • Deep expertise across architecture domains and layers, with the ability to turn architecture methods into Architecture as Code, production-ready reusable components, automated guardrails and controls, and measurable delivery outcomes.

  • Demonstrable experience leading the design, prototyping, implementation, and continuous improvement of AI-based automation in architecture, engineering, or governance environments.

  • Practical knowledge of generative AI and automation techniques, including prompt and workflow design, retrieval-augmented generation, agentic workflows, API integration, model evaluation, guardrails, monitoring, and human-in-the-loop controls.

  • Strong engineering and platform orientation, including Architecture as Code, APIs, cloud-native services, event-driven integration, data pipelines, observability, and secure software delivery practices.

  • Experience with enterprise architecture repositories, technology inventories, metadata, and data-quality controls, with the ability to turn complex technology data into reliable architecture intelligence and decision support.

  • Sound knowledge of AI risk, model and data governance, cybersecurity, technology risk, operational resilience, auditability, and financial-services regulatory expectations.

  • Relevant architecture, cloud (preferably GCP), data (preferably Snowflake), engineering, or AI certifications are advantageous.

  • Fluent English is required.

Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, optimise workflows to solve business problems, while applying critical judgment to ensure responsible and ethical use of data and AI outputs.
