We’re seeking a candidate who simply doesn’t just check off all the boxes. A successful candidate will need to have the capacity to navigate through varied business activities and collaborate with colleagues within and outside of the Finance organization, as well as across BNY’s lines of business and operating teams. In doing so, this individual will gain a thorough working knowledge of BNY’s line of business finance and accounting processes, procedures and operations and apply a strong foundation in technical accounting.

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:

  • Perform technical accounting research and prepare position papers on complex topics including detailed analysis and review of key accounting requirements. This role encompasses a broad range of technical accounting areas that may include but are not limited to emerging accounting issues, asset capitalization, periodic and/or annual asset impairment assessments, business combinations and/or divestitures, consolidation matters, share-based compensation, revenue recognition, and financial reporting matters such as segment reporting.

  • Identify and evaluate emerging accounting FASB or SEC pronouncements and requirements, lead or assist in implementation of changes, and clearly communicate findings to management, business partners, and auditors. This role may also include being the primary contact and lead for evaluation and implementation of certain accounting and reporting standards including partnering with others on process development and/or internal controls.

  • Involvement in periodic monitoring and administrative processes that help ensure compliance with GAAP, including preparation of quarter-end accounting analysis, accounting policy reviews and updates as applicable, summarization and reporting of new accounting developments and status, and other compliance related reporting activities.

  • Act as an advisor to line of business management, including teaming and providing guidance on technical accounting questions or business initiatives that require technical accounting support and expertise.

  • Coordinate the review process with internal stakeholders which may include regional or local controllers, business partners, regulatory reporting policy and team, international team members, and external auditors.

  • Support additional projects as needed.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA (active status) required.

  • 10-15 years of relevant and progressive accounting experience including technical accounting and/or recent Big 4 public accounting firm financial statement audit practice (experience in both is a plus). Experience in financial institution accounting beyond traditional banking and lending activities, and including asset management and servicing, is ideal.

  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and direct familiarity and knowledge of SEC reporting and disclosure rules.

  • Strong skills in analyzing, developing and maintaining accounting interpretations, and associated documentation and policy materials.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences and summarize clear accounting interpretations and conclusions.

  • Detail-oriented and process-minded, with strong analytical skills to break down complex problems and implement scalable solutions.

  • Self-starter who thrives with minimal direction in a fast-paced, changing environment and embraces collaboration, new technology and innovation.

  • Demonstrated ability to partner across multidisciplinary teams and varying levels of staff to deliver results.

  • While this is not a project administration role, project management or equivalent skills are vital.

  • Effective at mentoring, supporting a team-oriented culture, and delegating where necessary to focus on process excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Ability and desire to drive process improvement and leverage automation tools or AI.
