How you'll make impact

The Financial Platform team builds the systems that underpin Airwallex’s financial integrity and global expansion. You’ll lead a team delivering reliable, scalable services that manage real-time balances, account for every transaction, and execute global settlements with precision.

• Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, creating a supportive, high-performance environment.

• Drive the delivery of complex engineering projects from design through production, balancing quality, timelines, and business objectives.

• Partner with Finance and product teams across Payments, GTPN, Issuing, FX, and Billing to translate accounting requirements into robust technical solutions.

• Provide technical direction on backend engineering practices, system architecture, security, scalability, and data integrity.

• Improve engineering processes and delivery outcomes through data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.

• Strengthen collaboration between Engineering and Finance by communicating technical and financial concepts clearly to varied audiences.

• Deliver secure, compliant, and resilient financial systems that support Airwallex’s customers and internal stakeholders.
  

What we're looking for

Essentials

• Experience leading and mentoring a team of software engineers in a high-performance environment.

• Strong backend engineering experience, with proficiency in a language such as Java or Kotlin.

• Experience planning and delivering complex engineering projects from design through production.

• A track record of partnering effectively with cross-functional stakeholders, including Finance, Product, and Engineering.

• A solid understanding of software architecture, scalability, security, and data integrity.

• Experience making decisions with data and improving engineering processes, reliability, and delivery outcomes.

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and financial or accounting requirements to varied audiences.

• A proactive, solutions-oriented approach to solving ambiguous problems and delivering meaningful results.

Preferred

• Experience working in fintech, payments, accounting, or another regulated industry.

• Understanding of accrual-based accounting principles and bookkeeping practices.

• Experience building or operating ledger, reconciliation, treasury, wallet, settlement, or financial reporting systems.

• Experience working with globally distributed teams and products operating across multiple markets.

We own the fundamental financial stack, including the Client Wallet, Transaction Processing Engine, and Internal Ledger. Together, these mission-critical systems manage real-time balances, account for every transaction, and execute global settlements at massive scale.
