The SEC Reporting team prepares external quarterly and annual financial reports for American Express Company and certain US GAAP subsidiaries. In particular we prepare the Company’s SEC filings, including the Form 10-Q, Form 10-K and Form 11-K. We also support the preparation of quarterly Earnings materials. We perform independent processes to prepare, review and analyze financial information with a key focus on control and compliance. We work extensively with financial/segment controllers, subject matter experts, General Counsel’s Office, Investor Relations and external auditors. While the team owns deliverables on a quarterly cadence, no two quarters are the same due to the ever-evolving storyline of the company’s performance and aspirations. Team members across all levels have high exposure to senior leaders, making a culture of discourse, innovation and diverse thinking key to the team’s success.
- Work with teams from across Finance and beyond to understand and report on the company’s holistic performance through 10-Q/10-K reporting
- Assist in the creation of 10-Q/10-K reports and the associated validations/analyses over the documents
- Use curiosity and reporting acumen to identify opportunities to improve our external financial disclosures
- Ensure compliance with all internal controls around external reporting and coordinate required documentation as necessary (e.g. spreadsheet controls, tie-out packages, etc.)
- Assist in quarterly analyses related to materiality considerations and SAB 99 procedures
- Leverage your technical and reporting expertise to support critical Company initiatives
Minimum Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting/Finance
- 2+ years professional experience in Accounting/Finance
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Strong analytical skills and an attention to detail
- Agile mindset – positive, can-do attitude with the flexibility to adapt
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA/CPA
- Prior External Reporting and/or public accounting experience
- Experience with Workiva reporting platform
