Head of AML and CTF (PCF 52)
About the team
SumUp's global AML Governance team sits at the heart of how we protect our business, our customers, and the small businesses we serve every day. As SumUp grows into new markets and builds out a truly global compliance structure, this team is expanding its reach, moving from a European focus to a worldwide one, covering regulated entities across the UK, Ireland, Lithuania, Brazil, Chile, Italy, and Australia.
This is a critical, regulated role (PCF-52) for SumUp Limited, our Irish entity. You'll be the primary point of contact with the Central Bank of Ireland and Irish law enforcement on all financial crime matters, and you'll hold overall responsibility for maintaining the framework for detection, prevention, and reporting of financial crime across our Irish operations. This is a real opportunity to shape how AML / CTFgovernance works at scale across SumUp's regulated entities.

What you'll do
- Own and maintain SumUp Limited's AML / CTF framework, ensuring full compliance with Irish regulatory requirements and managing all communications with the Central Bank of Ireland
- Act as the primary contact for Financial Intelligence Units and law enforcement agencies on financial crime matters, including overseeing SAR decisions and escalations
- Deliver clear, data-driven reporting to the PIL Board and senior management on financial crime risks, regulatory developments, and the effectiveness of the compliance framework.
- Strengthen financial crime awareness across the business through targeted training and stakeholder engagement, while leading annual AML/CTF risk assessments and overseeing transaction monitoring, screening, and reporting programmes.
- Contribute to the development of the global KYC framework alongside the Head of KYC Strategy and the wider MLRO community
- Build strong relationships with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to embed a practical, risk-aware compliance culture across the business
You'll be great for this role if…
- Prior experience as a Head of AML or MLRO within the Irish financial services sector, ideally in fintech, payments, or e-money, and eligibility for PCF-52 approval.
- Deep knowledge of Irish AML/CTF regulations, CBI guidance, and law enforcement reporting frameworks, with the confidence to engage regulators directly.
- Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and validating comprehensive AML/CTF and sanctions compliance frameworks, supported by strong capabilities in financial crime risk assurance and regulatory reporting.
- Skilled at maintaining robust regulatory standards while supporting business growth, applying proportionate controls that manage risk without creating unnecessary operational barriers.
- Strong analytical judgement to identify emerging financial crime typologies and ability to translate complex financial crime risks into clear, practical measures that support business growth without compromising compliance.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving, scale-up environment where navigating ambiguity and building cross-functional relationships are part of the day-to-day.
