Who We Are Looking For
State Street Investment Management is seeking a Vice President, Head of Developer Experience & AI Engineering to lead our strategic Engineering Platform initiative, Atlas.
This is a senior technology leadership role responsible for defining and executing the vision, strategy, and roadmap for developer experience, engineering productivity, platform engineering, and AI-enabled software development across the organization.
The successful candidate will help shape the future of software engineering within State Street Investment Management by combining platform engineering, modern developer experiences, and artificial intelligence to fundamentally improve how technology solutions are designed, built, tested, deployed, and operated.
This leader will work closely with engineering, architecture, cloud, infrastructure, security, and business technology leaders globally to establish scalable engineering platforms, drive adoption of AI-assisted development capabilities, and accelerate the delivery of business value across Investment Management.
The ideal candidate is a strategic technology leader with a strong engineering foundation, deep understanding of modern software delivery practices, and demonstrated experience building engineering platforms, developer productivity solutions, and AI-powered engineering capabilities at enterprise scale.

What You Will Be Responsible For
- Lead the vision, strategy, roadmap, and execution of Atlas, the Engineering Platform for State Street Investment Management.
- Define and drive the Developer Experience (DevEx) strategy to improve engineering productivity, reduce delivery friction, and accelerate time-to-market.
- Establish and evolve platform engineering capabilities, including reusable services, engineering accelerators, self-service capabilities, developer tooling, and reference implementations.
- Lead the development of AI-powered engineering capabilities that improve software design, coding, testing, documentation, API development, deployment, and operational support.
- Drive adoption of AI-assisted software engineering practices across the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Evaluate and operationalize emerging AI technologies, agent-based solutions, and large language model capabilities to enhance engineering effectiveness.
- Build and scale shared engineering platforms that promote reusability, consistency, governance, and engineering excellence.
- Partner with Architecture, Security, Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure, and Application Development teams to establish modern software delivery standards and practices.
- Develop and implement engineering governance frameworks, standards, operating models, and adoption strategies.
- Define and measure engineering productivity, platform adoption, and business value realization metrics.
- Lead innovation initiatives focused on engineering automation, developer experience, and AI engineering capabilities.
- Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of platform engineers, architects, and AI engineering professionals.
- Collaborate with senior technology and business leaders to align platform investments with strategic business objectives.
- Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence.
- Anticipate, monitor, and manage technology, operational, security, and AI governance risks.
- Act in accordance with Risk Excellence principles and demonstrate ethical leadership and decision-making.
What We Value
- Demonstrated experience leading Platform Engineering, Developer Experience, Engineering Productivity, or Engineering Transformation initiatives in large enterprise environments.
- Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices, cloud-native architectures, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, and platform engineering principles.
- Experience building Internal Developer Platforms (IDP) and enterprise-scale engineering platforms.
- Proven success improving engineering productivity and driving adoption of shared technology capabilities across large engineering organizations.
- Deep understanding of Artificial Intelligence technologies, including Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), AI Agents, and AI-assisted software development.
- Experience applying AI technologies to improve engineering effectiveness, software delivery, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Experience defining AI governance, responsible AI practices, and enterprise AI operating models.
- Strong experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
- Experience building scalable APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, and modern engineering ecosystems.
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD, DevSecOps, Infrastructure as Code, automation frameworks, and developer tooling.
- Proven ability to lead global, cross-functional initiatives and influence senior technology stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, executive presence, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong strategic thinking combined with hands-on execution capability.
- A passion for innovation, continuous learning, and engineering excellence.
Education & Preferred Qualifications / Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Master's degree with 12+ years or Bachelor's degree with 15+ years of relevant technology industry experience.
- At least 5 years of leadership experience managing engineering, architecture, platform engineering, or developer productivity teams.
- Experience leading enterprise-scale software delivery, cloud transformation, platform engineering, or technology modernization programs.
- Strong background in software architecture, distributed systems, cloud-native engineering, and enterprise application development.
- Experience working with modern software development languages, frameworks, and engineering practices.
- Experience with AWS cloud services and modern cloud-native application architectures.
- Experience building, deploying, or scaling Generative AI, AI Agent, or AI-assisted engineering solutions strongly preferred.
- Track record of driving organizational change, technology adoption, and engineering transformation initiatives.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to balance long-term strategic vision with operational execution and delivery excellence.
- Demonstrated ability to build and develop high-performing engineering organizations.
