Job Description

• Translate company and business goals into clear engineering priorities, operating models, and measurable outcomes for your teams
• Actively partner with Product, Design, and Data leadership to shape the roadmap, challenge trade-offs constructively, and drive execution across teams and departments
• Own the delivery, quality, reliability, security, and long-term sustainability of your technical ecosystem, ensuring teams balance business impact with sound engineering judgment
• Guide architectural and organisational decisions that improve scalability, maintainability, and team autonomy, while reducing unnecessary dependencies and enabling the organisation to scale effectively
• Direct, mentor, and inspire a team of Engineering Managers and senior engineers. Your success is measured by their growth, the strength of your leadership structure, and the autonomy of their teams
• Proactively surface risks, remove obstacles, resolve conflicts, and represent the needs, constraints, and opportunities of your area in senior leadership discussions
• Foster a culture of ownership, transparency, continuous learning, psychological safety, and operational excellence. Build an environment where high-performing teams thrive

Qualifications

• A university degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Sciences, or equivalent practical experience
• A proven track record of leading and scaling engineering organizations, directly mentoring Engineering Managers and Staff Engineers, and driving staffing, performance, and organizational planning
• A deep passion about people management, coaching, and career development. You take immense pride in building healthy, inclusive environments where engineers and managers can do the best work of their careers
• Exceptional communication and analytical skills in both the technical and product domains. You know how to translate technical realities into business impact, challenge trade-offs constructively, and align diverse stakeholders
• Deep architectural understanding rooted in hands-on past experience as a software engineer - specifically within modern backend (Java, Kotlin) and/or frontend (React/JS) ecosystems
• Profound understanding of distributed systems, RESTful API design, scalable cloud architectures, and the operational demands of reliable, secure, and maintainable systems
• Experience with incident management, security, resilience, and change management in a regulated environment is a strong plus. Background in financial services is an advantage
