Details of the Division and Team:

The Deputy Head of Branch Operations supports the overall leadership and execution of branch operations in Thailand, working closely with the Head of Branch Operations to ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement across all functional units, while taking the primarily responsibility for all processes and tasks relating to Global Securities Operations, namely, Custody, Trustee, Fund Accounting, and Loan Operations.

This role requires a strong understanding of banking products, operational processes, regulatory obligations, and risk frameworks. The Deputy Head acts as a key enabler of strategic execution and serves as a trusted second-in-command to lead teams, support transformation, and manage day-to-day operational escalations.

Your key responsibilities:

Operational Oversight and Support:

  • The Deputy Head of Branch Operations will support the Head of Branch Operations in overseeing and managing the branch’s operations department, encompassing multiple teams across Payments and Cash Operations, Trade Finance Operations, Treasury Back Office, Custody and Fund Administration, and Loan Operations.  This role involves assisting in the development and implementation of strategic goals, driving transformation and continuous improvement, ensuring adherence to policies, processes, and procedures, and ensure smooth execution of daily activities and resolve issues/escalations that arise during business-as-usual (BAU) operations. 

  • Introduction and maintenance of local guidelines for all Custody / Trustee and Fund services business including making of amendments to guidelines / processes as and when required in compliance with country and regional guidelines.

  • Checking of end of day reports / activities to ensure all trades are captured, verified and processed.

  • Ensuring that all working accounts, suspense accounts and wash accounts are reconciled and balanced daily.

  • The preparation of statistics/ MIS reports for regional review.

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Support the implementation and monitoring of the operational risk control framework.

  • Drive a risk-focused culture across the area of responsibility, ensuring risk items identified are tracked to remediation, and adherence to internal policies and local regulatory standards.

Transformation & Process Improvement:

  • Drive process enhancements and efficiency initiatives in collaboration with the Head of Operations and regional stakeholders.

  • Support the execution of transformation projects and contribute to innovation and digitalization within operations.

  • Actively contribute to the development and execution of a more sustainable, automated, and efficient Target Operating Model (TOM).

  • Promote responsible adoption of AI, automation, and data-driven tools to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen controls, improve exception management, and support scalable service delivery across Securities Operations.

Audit, Compliance & Regulatory Engagement:

  • Assist in managing internal and external audits, regulatory inspections, and compliance requirements.

  • Ensure operational readiness and audit preparedness across units.

  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of regulatory reports in line with CBSL and other local statutory requirements.

Business Continuity and Testing:

  • Support the planning and execution of Business Continuity Management (BCM) and Disaster Recovery (DR) exercises to ensure Operational Resilience.

Operational Excellence:

  • Ensure that key process and risk indicators, controls, service level agreements, and vendor management are adhered to and evidenced.

  • Create a strong culture of risk mitigation and management.

Stakeholder Relationships:

  • Establish and maintain close relationships with local and regional business and infrastructure partners. Assist in the transition of tasks to strategic hubs or partners.

  • Lead and support Front-to-Back process reviews and prioritization to enhance end-to-end service delivery with a strong focus on client centricity, efficiency, and responsiveness.

Strategic Execution:

  • Contribute to the execution of branch and bank-level strategic objectives.

  • Represent the operations team in internal committees, projects, and forums as delegated by the Head of Operations.

Your skills and experience:

  • Banking Experience: Minimum of 15 years of relevant banking experience with knowledge and experience of working in an operations environment.

  • Operational Expertise: Experience in Cash Operations, Custody/Fund Services Operations, Trade Finance, and Loan Operations; familiar with local regulations.

  • Leadership Skills: Proven track record in leading and motivating teams. Strong inter-personal skills and leadership capabilities including delegation skills.

  • Analytical Skills: Extensive analytical skills and solution-oriented problem solving. Ability to assess and mitigate program risks and dependencies.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Ability to work in virtual global teams.

  • Client and Service Orientation: Distinct client and service orientation. Innovative approach to work and continuously identify and implement process improvements.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Banking & Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, or a related field from a recognized university.

  • A Master’s Degree (MBA or equivalent) in Finance, Business, or Risk management would be considered an added advantage.

  • AI and Digital Mindset: Demonstrated ability to identify practical use cases for AI, automation, and data analytics within operations, while ensuring appropriate governance, control, and regulatory considerations are maintained.

  • Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, optimise workflows to solve business problems, while applying critical judgment to ensure responsible and ethical use of data and AI outputs.

  • Professional qualifications in Banking and Finance, Accounting, or equivalent are highly desirable.
