William Blair’s GP-Led Secondary Advisory team provides financial sponsors and their investors with bespoke liquidity and capital solutions across the private equity lifecycle. We advise GPs on single- and multi-asset continuation funds, strip sales, spin-outs, tender offers, and related structures, working alongside the firm’s sector coverage and fund placement groups as one fully integrated team.
This is a high-visibility seat on an established, fast-growing team. The Vice President is the day-to-day execution lead on live transactions, works directly with Managing Directors and Directors on origination, structuring, execution, and syndication, and is in regular contact with GPs, secondary investors, legal counsel, and other secondary market participants. You will run multiple concurrent processes, build relationships with clients throughout the project lifecycle, and have a clear path to Director based on the strength of your execution and relationships.
Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:
- Serve as day-to-day execution lead on continuation fund and other GP-led transactions, coordinating workstreams across financial sponsors, investors, counsel, and internal teams.
- Own transaction structuring, returns modeling, diligence efforts, and execution strategy.
- Build and manage the buyer process, including investor targeting, diligence coordination, GP and management presentations, and support through documentation and closing.
- Lead the drafting of confidential information presentations, pitch materials, and market and valuation analyses, and present your work directly to clients.
- Develop and deepen relationships with sponsors and secondary investors, and partner with senior bankers to originate new mandates.
- Anticipate and resolve transaction issues, keeping momentum across several assignments at once.
- Train and develop Analysts and Associates: set clear objectives, share deal context, and give direct, actionable feedback.
- Stay current on secondary market trends, pricing, structures, terms, and investor sentiment, and bring that market intelligence into live processes and pitches.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Previous investment banking experience required, 3+ years at Associate level strongly preferred (ideally, in a GP-led secondary advisory or secondary investment role).
- Fluency in private markets valuation and returns analysis, with the accounting and modeling foundation to review and interpret complex financial analyses.
- Track record running transaction processes and managing several client engagements at once.
- Clear, concise written and verbal communication; comfort presenting to financial sponsors and investors.
- Sound commercial judgment, composure under deadline pressure, comfort reprioritizing quickly across live processes, and a genuine competitive streak.
- Effective coaching and leadership instincts, and interest in building a team as the platform grows.
- Willingness to travel 20-30% for sponsor and investor meetings, management sessions, and industry conferences.
- SIE, Series 79, and Series 63 must be obtained within 150 days of employment.
