Department Profile


ISG has created an ISG Data Group (IDG) to provide single point of accountability for the full spectrum of data related commercial initiatives. This ranges from the defensive risk reduction aspects of data security (both internal and external), through operational efficiency from improving data quality, to helping enhance revenue through further leveraging our data assets for providing services to our clients

.
The ISG Divisional Data Office (DDO) is part of IDG and is responsible for the oversight and integrity of the data used for senior management, regulatory or client reporting, or used by internal controls. Using a risk-based prioritization methodology, the team is responsible for working with control groups to prioritize key data which may require improvements in the controls to ensure integrity of that data.


Position Description


Morgan Stanley is seeking a Vice President who will work with the rest of the ISG DDO team to review and assess prioritized data initiatives, review key front office processes and the associated control framework, identify any control gaps and work on defining remediation plans for these gaps, including management of data issues and presentation of metrics around data issue/data initiatives and data policy implementation.
Skill Requirements

Extensive experience in the financial services industry.

Knowledge of financial products / asset classes / risk measures
-
Knowledge of the trade lifecycle & F2B data lineage/data flow experience
-
Experience in a similar Data Management role with focus on data definitions, data authorities, data quality rules, data quality controls perspective and awareness of industry best practices around data principles/ management.

Understanding of Data Governance/Management principles
-
Deep data analysis skills and attention to detail, looks for data patterns, identifies data inconsistencies/ deficiencies and challenges assumption taken by the subject matter experts.

Strong risk and control mindset
-
Ability to organize and present data in a meaningful way, including analyzing and summarizing detailed information from various sources
-
Ability to work within a team and to collaborate with peers and leadership across varied functions
-
Enthusiastic, owns tasks, delivery-focused and manages expectations,
-
Sense of ownership and accountability for work. Actively tracking and managing the pending tasks

Builds and manages client relationships

Strong written, communication and presentation skills, including the ability to liaise with and influence senior subject matter experts

Problem solver and asks questions/challenges at the right time

Advanced MS-Excel, MS-Word, and MS-PowerPoint skills and basic Data Modelling experience.


Primary Responsibilities
-
Develop Data Management standards for ISG department focusing data definitions, data authorities, data quality rules, data quality controls perspective and industry best practices around data principles/ management/governance.

Develop subject matter expertise around key data governance processes and controls
-
Understand from Data Policy perspective what needs to be catalogued for data projects
-
Expected to do understand relationships between data entities used by in scope business processes and do basic data modelling to support cataloguing
-
Understand control environment, support control documentation and mapping of controls to data
-
Understand DQ guidelines needed by data and control gaps, challenge where relevant Consumers on their fit for purpose needs
-
Work collaboratively with other team members for execution of data projects and with subject matter expertise for definition of data terms.

Assess the risk rating of data issues, undertaking root-cause analysis, performing periodic thematic issue analysis of data issues, and defining remediation plan/risk-acceptance for the top-rated data issues.

Prepare and present updates and metrics around data policy implementation, data issue management, areas requiring escalation and updating to other Data Governance Committees/Data Centre of Excellence.

Track progress of the initiatives against timelines, provide status report to Senior Management and highlight risks and dependencies to meeting planned deadlines
