Underwriter L.A.U.N.C.H Program

Position Summary

The Amwins Underwriter L.A.U.N.C.H Program is an education and training program hosted by the Amwins Underwriting division.   Participants will take part in an intensive 9-week program to gain a deep knowledge of the insurance industry, underwriting practices, and the Amwins organization. This program helps candidates develop a variety of professional skills while providing opportunities to network across multiple facets of the organization. For a highly motivated individual, the education and exposure in this program will support a candidate’s desire to excel in his or her underwriting career.   

The training program will be hosted in Charlotte, NC, where Amwins is based. Participants will be provided housing during the 9-week training.  After training in Charlotte, the participant will relocate to Windsor, CT to work with Business Risk Partners. Participants will be expected to travel no more than two times a year to Charlotte, NC, or other Amwins offices for additional training over the next few years.

  • RMI/Finance degree preferred early in career (less than 2 years of experience)

Business Risk Partners (BRP) is a Windsor-based Specialty Lines Managing General Agency writing Management Liability, Professional Liability and a range of specialty products. While a small company, BRP is part of Amwins, the world’s largest specialty insurance wholesaler, giving our teams deep resources and plentiful opportunities. Upon graduation of the 9-week program, the candidate will move into an entry-level underwriting support role within Business Risk Partners, joining one of our three teams: Management Liability, Professional Liability, or Operations. Duties will include:

  • Review and verify applications, supplemental documentation, and subjectivities for completeness and compliance with underwriting guidelines.
  • Prequalification for most risks.
  • Assist in binding, issuing policies, endorsements, mid -term change requests, prepare and deliver policy documents.
  • Maintain accurate electronic files and ensure all risk data is properly entered into underwriting systems for auditing purposes.
  • Communicate with brokers, agents, and carriers to gather missing information and clarify underwriting requirements.
  • Support underwriters with administrative tasks.
  • Understands what underwriting material is required to quote the risk, can identify missing information; including reviewing and verifying data regarding claims, loss runs.
  • Files documentation for underwriters.
  • Prepares audit files for annual carrier audits.

Pursuant to Connecticut regulation, the compensation range for this position is as stated and includes eligibility for performance-based bonuses.
