We have an exciting opportunity for a lawyer to join our Disputes & Operations (D&O) team on a 12-month contract. You must be qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales or Scotland.

Our Disputes & Operations team, led by the General Counsel for D&O, is a forward-looking and innovative legal team, which adopts an agile way of working. Our overall purpose is to partner with empathy, courage and creativity to Help Britain Prosper.

We’re looking for a conscientious and proactive Lawyer to join our D&O team, part of the wider Legal & Secretariat (L&S) division. This is a rare opportunity for a highly motivated individual to work in a supportive in-house litigation and contentious regulatory team.

You'll join the D&O team as a Lawyer. D&O lawyers do a mixture of litigation and contentious regulatory work. The role involves managing a caseload of important and high-profile litigation and contentious regulatory matters, advising stakeholders on industry significant strategic decision making, and contributing to wider work of the D&O team. You'll work closely with business and operations colleagues and provide pro-active, pragmatic, and commercially aware advice.

You'll work collaboratively as part of a supportive team. This will involve working with others from within the wider D&O team and L&S division.

What you’ll be doing

  • Deliver litigation and contentious regulatory support for Projects and cases.

  • Responsible for working alongside colleagues managing caseloads, including strategic case management, briefing, and influencing partners, and managing external panel law firms.

  • Support business areas in identifying and resolving legal risks.

  • Act as legal representative in business/divisional projects, supporting other team members and non-contentious legal colleagues.

  • Identify and develop protocols to improve the efficiency of litigation and contentious regulatory workload.

Why join us?

We’re transforming how we operate to meet the needs of the future—and this role puts you at the centre of that journey. You’ll work on meaningful, organisation-wide challenges, helping senior leaders shape how teams are structured and perform. With exposure to complex programmes and senior partners, this is an opportunity to build your expertise, expand your influence, and make a tangible impact on business outcomes.

What we’re looking for

  • Legally qualified in England & Wales, Scotland, or with an equivalent legal qualification, and with a current legal practicing certificate.

  • You’ll have knowledge of dispute resolution, with previous experience as a litigator in a law firm and/or in-house, experience of legal issues in the banking and financial services sector

  • Sound understanding of the technical and procedural factors affecting contentious matters

  • Ability to communicate ideas, risks, and strategies clearly and concisely – both orally and in written form.

  • Ability to build trusting and collaborative relationships.

  • Strong organisational skills and good attention to detail.
