Job Description
Purpose of the role
To assess the integrity and effectiveness of the banks internal control framework to support the mitigation of risk and protection of the banks operational, financial, and reputational risk.
Accountabilities
- Knowledge of business areas, products, processes and platforms to be able to assess risk
- Collaboration with various stakeholders across the bank and business units to improve overall control effectiveness through detailed documentation of control assessments, procedures, and findings.
- Identification and investigation of potential weaknesses and issues within internal controls to promote continuous improvement and risk mitigation aligned to the bank’s control framework, prioritised by its severity to disrupt bank operations.
- Development of reports to communicate key findings from risk assessment including control weaknesses and recommendations to control owners, senior management, and other stakeholders.
- Execution of reviews to determine the effectiveness of the bank's internal controls framework aligned to established and evolving policies, regulation, and best practice.
- Implementation of adherence to the Barclays Controls Framework and set appropriate methodology of assessing controls against the Controls Framework.

Join us as a Loans Product and Proposition Manager to ensure appropriate controls are designed, implemented and maintained throughout the product lifecycle, including product changes and new product delivery. The role will partner closely with Product, Compliance, Risk and business teams to identify, assess and mitigate credit, model and operational risks. You will support product governance forums, conduct product change risk assessments, monitor customer outcomes, and provide insight-led decision support through data analysis, control monitoring, exception management and root cause investigation. Success in this role will require balancing good risk management and lending product regulatory oversight with a customer-centric approach that supports sustainable growth, commercial objectives and positive customer outcomes.
To be successful as a Loans Product and Proposition Manager you should have the following essential skills:
- Proven experience within banking or financial services, with a good understanding of the regulatory environment and risk management frameworks.
- Sound knowledge of retail banking products, particularly loans and payments, and the associated customer and operational risks.
- Experience working within risk, controls or governance functions, with exposure to credit risk, operational risk and compliance risk.
- Considerable understanding of key regulatory requirements, including FCA regulations, Consumer Duty and PRA expectations, and their application within a lending environment.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear recommendations for decision-making.
Some other highly valued skills may include:
- Understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards, with the ability to assess their impact on lending products and ensure ongoing compliance through effective controls and governance.
- Proven ability to build good relationships and work collaboratively across Product, Risk, Compliance and business teams to achieve shared objectives and drive positive customer and commercial outcomes.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, identify and mitigate risks, and deliver effective control and governance activities in a dynamic environment.
