The Enterprise Data Management team is driving the modernization of metadata management and data governance capabilities across the organization. As BMO evolves its data management practices, this team is at the center of transforming how metadata is captured, governed, discovered, and used to support business decision-making, regulatory compliance, and data-driven innovation.

KEY/CORE Responsibilities:
This is an individual contributor role that supports the implementation, adoption, and continuous improvement of enterprise metadata management, data catalogue, and governance capabilities that enable the capture, management, discovery, and use of business and technical metadata across the organization.
Supports the transition to strategic data catalogue platforms and the operationalization of evolving data governance procedures to improve metadata quality, consistency, accessibility, and transparency across the enterprise.
Supports the transition from current-state to future-state data catalogue platforms, including metadata migration, onboarding, validation, and adoption activities.
Partners with business and technology teams to improve the quality, completeness, and consistency of metadata across enterprise inventories and catalogues.
Supports the implementation of evolving data governance procedures through practical processes, guidance, and platform capabilities.
CORE Skills:
5+ years with Enterprise Metadata Management including business, technical, and operational metadata
3+ years with Enterprise Data Catalogue Platforms (Alation, Informatica EDC, Informatica Axon, Collibra, or equivalent) including metadata onboarding, administration, and stewardship support
3+ years with Data Lineage Management including lineage analysis, mapping, impact analysis, and dependency tracing
5+ years with Data Governance Frameworks and Practices including metadata standards, business glossaries, inventories, and governance controls
2+ years with Metadata Migration and Platform Transition activities, including validation, reconciliation, and migration support
3+ years with enterprise data ecosystems across databases, applications, reporting platforms, and cloud/on-premises environments
Preferred Technical Skills
Alation Cloud Service (ACS)- 1+ years
Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog (EDC)- 1+ years
Informatica Axon Data Governance- 1+ years
Manta Data Lineage- 1+ years
Working Knowledge with DCAM (Data Management Capability Assessment Model)-
Financial services data governance and regulatory data management practices- 3+ years

This is an individual contributor role that supports the implementation, adoption, and continuous improvement of enterprise metadata management, data catalogue, and governance capabilities that enable the capture, management, discovery, and use of business and technical metadata across the organization. Supports the transition to strategic data catalogue platforms and the operationalization of evolving data governance procedures to improve metadata quality, consistency, accessibility, and transparency across the enterprise.
Supports the transition from current-state to future-state data catalogue platforms, including metadata migration, onboarding, validation, and adoption activities.
Partners with business and technology teams to improve the quality, completeness, and consistency of metadata across enterprise inventories and catalogues.
Supports the implementation of evolving data governance procedures through practical processes, guidance, and platform capabilities.
Contributes to the development and maintenance of metadata standards, business glossaries, inventories, and catalogue content.
Assists business and technology stakeholders in onboarding data assets and metadata into enterprise catalogue platforms.
Collaborates with technology teams to improve metadata harvesting, synchronization, and automation capabilities.
Supports the adoption of lineage capabilities and helps stakeholders understand data relationships and dependencies through catalogue tools.
Acts as a trusted advisor to data management community, and technology partners on metadata management and data catalogue best practices.
Fosters collaboration and consistency across a federated data management community.
Fosters a culture aligned to BMO purpose, values and strategy and role models BMO values and behaviours in all that they do.

Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience.
Knowledge of Data governance frameworks (E.g. DCAM, DMBOK)

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
