As a Payments Operations Specialist in the Payments Operations team, you will process and verify payment requests by performing defined controls and resolving exceptions to support accurate, timely outcomes. You will contribute to service quality by responding to routine queries, maintaining strong documentation practices, and identifying improvement opportunities. You will work collaboratively to help the team meet deadlines, quality standards, and operational risk expectations.

Job responsibilities

  • Process client payment requests by completing defined controls and validations to support accuracy and timeliness
  • Verify payment details and processing outcomes, escalating aged items and pending actions through established channels
  • Identify errors and exceptions promptly, documenting findings and escalating according to procedures
  • Respond to routine service queries and complaints in a timely, professional manner
  • Maintain audit readiness by following procedures, completing required checks, and ensuring evidence is captured appropriately
  • Support process improvements by identifying efficiency opportunities and implementing changes in a controlled manner
  • Create and update operating procedures and supporting documentation, ensuring standards are followed
  • Follow applicable system access and information security requirements in day-to-day work
  • Collaborate effectively with teammates by sharing updates, raising issues early, and supporting a positive work environment
  • Provide cross-training and knowledge sharing to strengthen team coverage and operational resilience
  • Prepare recurring management reporting and performance metrics as required

Required qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in international payments processing operations
  • Working knowledge of payment operations processes and controls within a banking or financial services environment
  • Ability to follow defined procedures with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to identify exceptions and escalate issues promptly using established channels
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication in a professional setting
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Working knowledge of SWIFT payment conventions and practices
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for operational decision-making

Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Experience in a back-office payments operations environment within a bank or financial institution
  • Experience supporting quality checks, control processes, or audit readiness activities
  • Experience creating or maintaining operating procedures and process documentation
  • Experience preparing operational scorecards, performance metrics, or management reporting
  • Experience providing on-the-job training or knowledge transfer to teammates
