As a Principal Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within the VPC Network organization, you provide expertise and engineering excellence as an integral part of an agile team to enhance, build, and deliver trusted, market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. Leverage your advanced technical capabilities and collaborate with colleagues across the organization to drive best-in-class outcomes across various technologies that support the firm's strategic network transformation initiatives.
This role will lead the design and implementation of JPMC-VPC, a next-generation software-defined networking platform that will replace legacy infrastructure and provide the foundation for future innovation. You will help modernize JPMorgan Chase's network platform by advancing software-defined networking technologies that improve resilience, scalability, security, and operational efficiency.
Job Responsibilities
- Design and architect core components of JPMC-VPC, including control plane, distribution plane, data plane (OVS/DPU), software gateways, load balancers, and IPAM systems.
- Develop secure, high-quality production code and review, test, and debug code written by others.
- Write production-quality software in Go, Python, Rust, or C/C++ to support large-scale networking infrastructure.
- Create complex, scalable, and reusable software frameworks using appropriate software design patterns and engineering best practices.
- Architect and govern AI-enabled engineering workflows using enterprise-authorized tools to improve delivery speed, code quality, operational effectiveness, and engineering productivity while establishing appropriate security, resiliency, and validation controls.
- Apply knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) tools, automation frameworks, infrastructure as code, CI/CD practices, and observability platforms to improve engineering outcomes at scale.
- Advise cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders on complex technical matters and emerging technologies within networking, distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and software-defined networking.
- Collaborate with strategic vendor partners, including Red Hat and NVIDIA, on technology roadmaps, integrations, and platform evolution.
- Influence leaders and senior stakeholders across business, product, architecture, and technology teams to drive strategic technology decisions.
- Contribute to the development and adoption of modern engineering methodologies, standards, and technical practices across teams.
- Serve as the function’s go-to subject matter expert for networking technologies, software-defined infrastructure, and distributed systems.
- Translate highly complex technical issues, trends, and approaches to leadership to drive innovation and enable strategic technology decisions.
- Represent JPMorganChase in open-source communities, industry forums, and strategic technology partnerships as appropriate.
- Create durable, reusable software capabilities and frameworks that can be leveraged across teams and functions.
- Champion the firm's culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- 12+ years of experience designing and building large-scale networking platforms, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, software-defined networking solutions, or related technologies.
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and advanced applied experience.
- Hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, deployment, and operational stability.
- Expert-level proficiency in one or more programming languages, with strong experience in Go, Python, Rust, or C/C++.
- Demonstrated experience designing and leading adoption of AI-enabled engineering practices using enterprise-authorized tools, including governance, validation, security, and responsible AI controls.
- Strong understanding of responsible AI principles, engineering risk management, data sensitivity, security, resiliency, and governance considerations.
- Hands-on experience with software-defined networking technologies such as OVN, OVS, or equivalent platforms.
- Expert knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, routing, switching, load balancing, and distributed network architectures.
- Experience with modern software engineering practices including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, automation, and cloud-native development.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex technology challenges through application of advanced engineering techniques and emerging technologies.
- Proven ability to influence across teams and functions and drive technology outcomes at scale.
- Ability to present complex technical concepts and recommendations to senior leaders and executives.
- Practical cloud-native experience.
- Expertise in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
- Strong understanding of business objectives and the ability to align technology solutions to business outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Experience with DPU/SmartNIC technologies, including NVIDIA BlueField, AMD Pensando, or Intel IPU.
- Knowledge of high-performance networking frameworks such as eBPF, XDP, and DPDK.
- Experience with Kubernetes networking and CNI implementations, including Cilium, Calico, or Flannel.
- Understanding of advanced networking and routing technologies including BGP, OSPF, VXLAN, and EVPN.
- Experience building and operating large-scale software-defined networking platforms in enterprise or cloud environments.
- Experience contributing to open-source networking technologies or industry standards organizations.
- Experience collaborating with infrastructure, cloud, and platform engineering organizations to deliver software-defined infrastructure solutions.
