The Project Manager will lead complex, end‑to‑end change initiatives within the Mortgages and Financial Wellbeing CIO, with a particular focus on transforming mortgage operations. This role is central to delivering high‑impact projects that enhance operational efficiency, strengthen resilience, and support the integration of Virgin Money.
Our delivery priorities for 2026/27 FY all align with the following Key priorities:
- Strengthen Operational Resilience
- Begin migrations in 2026, with integration complete by 2028
- Transform ways of working including automation and AI to boost productivity.
- Prioritise innovation in areas that matter most.
The Project Manager will oversee the full project lifecycle, from shaping delivery approaches to managing risks, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations across technology, operations, and business teams.
Success in this role requires strong leadership, structured delivery discipline, and the ability to navigate complex environments with multiple moving parts. The Project Manager will also lead and champion continuous improvement, embed best‑practice delivery frameworks, and ensure that outcomes are aligned to strategic objectives. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment and is passionate about delivering meaningful change that directly benefits our members.
This role sits within Mortgages, Operations and Home Insurance Value Stream, a critical area focused on delivering seamless, efficient, and member-centric mortgage services. The value stream supports the full lifecycle of mortgage operations—from application to servicing—ensuring our Operations Colleagues and members receive timely, transparent, and supportive experiences.
The Project Manager plays a key role in enabling transformation across this area, particularly through automation and supporting the integration of Virgin Money. The impact of the role is felt directly by Nationwide members, and Mortgage Operations colleagues as it helps streamline processes, reduce friction, and improve service delivery. By modernising mortgage operations, the role contributes to Nationwide’s mutual values.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this role, you'll be based at your nearest regional office or hub. We value time spent together to connect with colleagues for collaboration so there will be a regular requirement to attend our Swindon, London or Glasgow sites approximately once or twice a month. If you are based at an office location, you'll be expected to meet our hybrid working requirement of at least two days a week, or 40% of your working time if part-time, in the office. If you’re based at our Glasgow office, this will apply from 1 April 2027 and ahead of that there will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.
Nationwide is committed to the redeployment of our employees impacted by change, as such applications for redeployment candidates will be prioritised in this recruitment process.
If you’re a colleague on long-term absence (for example, on parental leave) or a temporary worker, please use your personal email address to submit an application.
What you’ll be doing
You will work with the delivery team to align on priorities and unblock delivery challenges. You’ll spend time reviewing progress against milestones, managing risks and dependencies, and engaging with stakeholders across technology, and other areas. The pace is fast, but the work is purposeful—every decision contributes to improving how members experience mortgage services. You’ll feel empowered to lead, but also accountable for outcomes that matter.
