About the Role

The primary purpose of this role is to contribute to the achievement of department, branch and corporate goals, with a focus on profit, growth, service, and strong producer and client relationships.

In this role, you will:

Performance and Underwriting

• Contribute to the achievement of personal premium, rate and retention targets across your allocated portfolio.
• Underwrite new business, renewals and endorsements within delegated authority.
• Assess risks outside your authority and make recommendations for acceptance or declination.
• Take responsibility for underwriting results across your assigned portfolio.
• Assist the manager with underwriting results, profit analysis, market trends, competitor analysis and ad hoc reports or projects.
• Monitor claim activity within your book and liaise with stakeholders as needed.
• Support the ongoing development and improvement of the renewal process.
   

Producer Relations and Service

• Build and manage strong producer relationships, handling queries and resolving issues effectively.
• Keep stakeholders informed of market conditions and producer challenges.
• Deliver an exceptional underwriting service across your portfolio and to internal business stakeholders.
   

What you’ll bring to the role

• Property and or Underwriting experience
• Looks for solutions to unique underwriting situations.
• Consistently displays initiative and seeks opportunities to innovate
• Understands pricing techniques and underwriting margin 
• Understands and interprets policy wordings
• Understands the underwriting appetites of the other departments and how those relate to interdepartmental accounts.
• Makes recommendations for tailoring coverage and manuscripting policies
• Is familiar with the products / services of key competitors.
• Is comfortable with a wide range of negotiation techniques.
• Is a clear and concise communicator
• Has demonstrated ability to work well with people and influence decisions.
• Desire and ability to cross train in other Property & Casualty lines of business

Desirable:

• University bachelor’s degree or equivalent
