Southern Cross Health Society · Insurance

About us

Southern Cross Health Insurance is shaping a healthier Aotearoa New Zealand. Our purpose is simple: empowering our members to live well for longer. We're here to give peace of mind through timely access to quality care, inspire healthier living, and lead positive change across the health system. As a New Zealand-owned, member-based organisation, we're building a future where wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do -- delivering exceptional value for our members and creating an environment where our people thrive.

Now is an exciting time to join us. You'll be part of a high-performing, values-driven team where people are at the heart of everything we do -- and in return for your talent, you'll have the opportunity to grow, make an impact, and be proud of the difference your work makes.

About the role

Help shape what health insurance could become.

How do we help people get the care they need while keeping health insurance affordable? As Proposition Development Lead, you’ll explore what members need next and turn promising ideas into propositions worth backing.

Working across Southern Cross and with external partners, you’ll test ideas, challenge assumptions and build the case for investment. You’ll combine curiosity with commercial judgement, shape recommendations for our Executive and Board, and prepare validated propositions for design and delivery.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead discovery into future member needs and market opportunities, translating ambiguity into clear propositions and strategic choices.
  • Develop roadmaps and commercial assessments covering affordability, portfolio economics, actuarial impacts and risk.
  • Lead cross-functional work from discovery through to implementation readiness, aligning internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Bring internal teams and external partners together around a clear roadmap, managing dependencies and making trade-offs explicit.
  • Manage dependencies, trade-offs and governance, developing recommendations for Executive and Board consideration.
  • Transition validated propositions into detailed design and delivery.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong experience in product strategy, proposition development, from discovery through to testing and investment decisions.
  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to translate strategy into roadmaps and investment cases.
  • Experience leading complex cross-functional work and external partners, bringing clarity when the problem or answer isn’t yet clear.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, governance and influencing skills, with confidence engaging senior leaders.
  • Insurance experience, ideally within health, life, trauma, disability or another risk-protection environment would be an advantage.

Our values who we are and what’s important to us.

Ngākau nui. Āhurutanga. Tikanga.

Join a team that's always there, always real, always true. If you thrive in a purpose-driven, diverse and supportive culture, we think you’ll love working with us.

What we offer you

  • Five days of wellbeing leave per year (pro-rated for part-timers).
  • Health insurance for you and your immediate whānau.
  • Life insurance cover and discounts on pet and travel insurance.
  • Extra parental leave benefits and financial wellbeing support.
  • Ability to participate in our workplace wellbeing programme.

But that’s not all. If you need more time to support your whānau, we offer work-life balance, a hybrid environment and each year you have a volunteer day to spend with your team contributing to a cause or community of your choice.
