The Quality Engineer III is a senior quality professional responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality technology solutions through comprehensive manual testing, quality assurance practices, and collaboration across Agile delivery teams. This role serves as a quality advocate throughout the software development lifecycle, partnering with Product Managers, Product Owners, , Developers, and stakeholders to validate business requirements, refine user stories, define acceptance criteria, and ensure solutions meet functional, integration, and business expectations.
The Quality Engineer III leads testing efforts for medium to large-scale initiatives, developing test strategies, designing and executing detailed test scenarios, and ensuring full traceability between requirements and testing outcomes. They proactively identify risks, document and manage defects, provide quality reporting, and help teams implement effective testing practices. This role also mentors other Quality Engineers, promotes continuous improvement, and drives quality standards across multiple initiatives.
Depth & Scope:
- Experienced professional role with in-depth knowledge / expertise in testing planning, design, automation, and execution.
- Primary subject matter expert in own area, able to consult with stakeholders or cross functional teams with respect to all aspects of quality software delivery
- Hands on expertise understanding architecture blueprints and diagrams including logical data models and translate them into efficient test approaches
- Expert knowledge of specific domain and quality engineering frameworks, technology, tools, processes, and procedures
- Business and technology acumen across multiple areas, seeks out and identifies opportunities to benefit the Bank and / or introduce operational improvements
- Advanced debugging and problem-solving skills; investigates and analyzes potential solutions to complex problems
- Ability to work autonomously on complex application / solution issues as needed, escalating to leadership or other stakeholders when necessary; can play a leadership role to drive activities
- Ability to drive and support delivery of quality solutions across pods or medium to high complexity/size scope across one product line / business
- Deep experience applying in new / advanced techniques and approaches in testing and automation (e.g., BDD, Machine Learning, etc.) and ability to lead their implementation in the platform, project
- Future focused- foresee issues and gaps and identifies industry trends
- Effectively leads team, participate in and drive collaboration
- Advanced experience in software configuration code and release management
- Advanced knowledge of test architecture frameworks, technology, tools, processes, and procedures
Education & Experience:
- BS degree in Computer Science or related Engineering discipline; or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- Strong academic background (e.g., software engineering, computer science)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Encompass Experience
- Residential Mortgage and/or Home Equity Lending Experience
- Quality Engineering, Quality Assurance, or Software Testing experience.
- Strong expertise in manual functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing.
- Experience analyzing business requirements and translating them into test scenarios and test cases.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
- Proficiency with quality management and defect tracking tools such as JIRA and JTMF.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and mentorship skills.
- Ability to independently lead testing efforts while influencing quality outcomes across multiple teams.
Customer Accountabilities:
- Accountable for Test Strategy deliverables, planning, test design /development, test case automation and test execution to achieve business outcomes for medium to high complexity scope.
- Integrates directly into a team’s continuous delivery process, augmenting the delivery of quality software and ensuring speed, agility, and risk management.
- Provides leadership, direction and feedback throughout the development and design processes; provides test development / automation support to ensure that the quality of the intended solution is met
- Able to determine testing impacts for multiple delivery teams and scale accordingly to ensuring positive business outcomes
- Responsible for activities related to risk identification and mitigation and validating that business outcomes are achieved.
- Drives quality and metrics making improvements in delivery; works on becoming a leader in innovation
- Utilizes advanced domain knowledge & ability to understand technical solutions to build an optimized Test Approach, inclusive of the tooling strategy
- Effectively engineers and leverages virtual assets to support virtualization of any incomplete / unavailable code, service, database, etc.
- Have strong knowledge of test data management to reuse automated test data provisioning capabilities to be able to adopt a standard test data tool set
- Leads deployment and implementation of tools / processes / resources and automation for functional and/or non-functional testing (performance, readiness / reliability testing (ORT), accessibility, security) approach, frameworks, and ensures automated tests are integrated into the continuous integration, delivery, and testing (CI/CD/CT) pipelines
- Identifies opportunities for test asset reusability and efficiencies in test approach
- Proactively seeks continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and responsible for developing, documenting, and proactively identifying end-to-end test solution designs and early automation opportunities within the testing process
- Leads team and collaborates cross-functionally with development, business analysts, etc. to ensure proper assessment of user stories including acceptance criteria and Definition of Done (DoD) / Ready (DoR)
- Applies Coach and mentors others on the principles of behavior / Test Driven Development (BDD / TDD) and focuses on value driven outcomes
- Provides advanced test development support
- Accountable for test architecture activities
- Sitting at the Product Group (PG) level, act as a quality expert working across numerous development teams in medium complexity deliveries
- Acts as an expert who can quickly troubleshoot and accountable for use of automation frameworks across numerous delivery teams as needed
- Ensures quality of source code; looking for opportunities to effectively leverage tools and engineering practices (DevOps tools and processes, SV, monitoring tools and process, etc.)
- Accountable for early contributions to the design and development process / to ensure built-in-quality code
Shareholder Accountabilities:
- Adheres to enterprise frameworks or methodologies that relate to quality engineering activities
- Ensures respective programs/ policies/practices are well managed, meets business needs, complies with internal and external requirements, and aligns with business priorities
- Collaboratively engages with relevant stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external, to shift from finding defects to proactively preventing defects
- Actively seeks and supports continuous improvement and automation opportunities within the quality engineering practice
- Conducts meaningful analysis at the functional or enterprise level using data to draw conclusions, makes recommendations, assesses the effectiveness of programs/ policies/ practices
- Identifies opportunities to minimize cost, provides recommendations and/or deliver corresponding strategic solutions to support cost effectiveness and to enhance stakeholder experience
- Conducts test assets reviews to ensure adherence to quality, standards compliance, reusability, and ease of maintenance
- Monitors service, productivity and assesses efficiency levels within own function and implements continuous process / performance improvements where opportunities exist
- Leads / facilitates and/or implements actions / remediation plans to address performance / risk /governance issues
- Actively manages relationships within and across various business lines, corporate and/or control functions and ensures alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements
- Protects the interests of the organization – identifies and manages risks, and escalates nonstandard, high-risk activities as necessary
- Keeps abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts
- Maintains a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite
