What’s the role?

As a Quality Engineering Manager reporting to the Head of Testing, BT Platforms, you will be accountable for defining and driving the quality engineering strategy across a strategic delivery initiative

You will provide leadership across multiple delivery squads, engineering teams and vendor partners, ensuring quality practices are embedded throughout the software delivery lifecycle and that stakeholders have a clear and trusted view of quality, risks and release readiness

Working across complex environments, integrations and delivery streams, you will drive consistent adoption of quality engineering standards, automation frameworks and AI-accelerated testing capabilities, helping teams deliver high-quality outcomes with confidence.

This is a permanent, hybrid role based in Sydney / Warrane, Gadigal Country, offering the flexibility to blend office and home working while collaborating with high performing engineering, product and delivery teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define, maintain and drive the overall test strategy and quality engineering approach across the programme.
  • Lead quality engineering activities across multiple squads, delivery streams and vendor partners, ensuring alignment to programme objectives and release milestones.
  • Establish quality standards, test governance processes, quality gates and reporting frameworks that support consistent delivery outcomes.
  • Drive API-first, component-level and integration testing practices to improve quality, coverage and early defect detection.
  • Provide programme-level visibility of test progress, coverage, risks, defects, dependencies and release readiness, delivering a trusted single source of truth for stakeholders.
  • Manage cross-team testing dependencies including environments, test data, integrations and shared services, ensuring constraints and risks are identified and addressed proactively.
  • Drive adoption and effective use of approved quality engineering frameworks, automation platforms and AI-accelerated testing capabilities across delivery teams.
  • Partner with Engineering, Product and Delivery teams to embed quality throughout the software delivery lifecycle and promote shift-left practices.
  • Coordinate quality engineering activities across internal and external teams to ensure consistent execution, governance and reporting.
  • Assess quality risks, recommend mitigation strategies and provide release readiness recommendations to programme stakeholders.
  • Consolidate quality metrics, testing outcomes and programme insights into meaningful reporting for governance forums and senior stakeholders.
  • Champion continuous improvement through modern quality engineering practices, reusable assets, automation and data-driven quality metrics.

What do I need?

  • Extensive experience in Quality Engineering, Test Management or Quality Assurance leadership roles within large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Proven experience defining and delivering test strategies across complex, multi-team programmes.
  • Strong expertise in API, integration and component-level testing across distributed systems and services.
  • Demonstrated experience driving automation and modern quality engineering practices within Agile and DevOps delivery models.
  • Strong understanding of microservices, APIs, enterprise integration patterns and quality engineering best practices.
  • Experience working across multiple squads, stakeholders, vendor partners and delivery teams in a matrix operating model.
  • Strong understanding of environment management, integration dependencies, test data requirements and release coordination.
  • Experience driving adoption of enterprise testing frameworks, automation solutions and quality engineering standards.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills.
  • Strong reporting and analytical capability, with the ability to present complex quality information clearly and concisely to both technical and executive audiences.
  • Experience with Jira, Xray and related quality engineering tooling.
  • Proven track record of managing testing risks, governance processes and release readiness activities
