Economic Crime Intelligence sits within 2nd Line Economic Crime Risk and Compliance.  We support the development of high-quality economic crime intelligence and complex investigations, transforming data and external insight into actionable outputs that enable timely intervention, strengthen controls, and support the organisation’s response to economic crime threats.

 

Working across a broad range of economic crime threats, the team produces strategic and tactical intelligence outputs, develops complex investigations and collaborates with key industry partnerships including law enforcement and public-private intelligence sharing initiatives. We’re a highly skilled team that combines analytical expertise, curiosity and a passion for protecting customers and the organisation from evolving criminal threats.

This is a 13-month secondment opportunity.

What you’ll be doing

 

In this role, you'll play a key role in developing intelligence-led responses to economic crime risks and supporting complex investigations across the business, in doing this you will undertake complex economic crime investigations on behalf of Nationwide ensuring that all investigations are robust, evidence-based and that all avenues of investigation and recovery are pursued

 

You will fuse intelligence from internal systems, external data and law enforcement sources to build a complete intelligence picture supporting the identification of emerging threats and criminal methodologies to ensure remedial actions including any reporting requirements are taken as appropriate to cover unpredicted exposures.

 

In doing this you will lead the production of tactical and strategic intelligence outputs, aligned to priority threats, ensuring outputs are clear and actionable and ensuring timely and targeted dissemination of intelligence to relevant stakeholders.

 

A key responsibility will be to Identify weaknesses in processes, policies and systems and make recommendations to Economic Crime management on how to prevent reoccurrence, actively contributing to Public Private Partnership activities such as JMLIT, Data Fusion Cell, and PPTG forums, including intelligence development and case contributions

 

You will support responses to Section 7 requests and law enforcement enquiries, ensuring quality and timeliness, supporting the Annual Economic Crime Threat Assessment and ongoing intelligence lifecycle ensuring that all activity complies with legal gateways, governance standards, and audit requirements
 

 

About you

 

We're looking for someone who combines strong investigative capability with a passion for intelligence analysis and problem-solving.

 

You will ideally have:

 

  • Strong knowledge of UK economic crime risks, legislation and regulatory frameworks

  • Experience conducting complex investigations and producing high-quality intelligence products

  • A strong understanding of financial crime typologies and intelligence development techniques

  • Experience analysing complex datasets and multiple intelligence sources to identify meaningful insights

  • Excellent critical thinking and structured analytical skills

  • The ability to translate complex information into clear, concise and compelling intelligence narratives

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to engage at all levels of the organisation

  • Experience working with external partners, such as law enforcement, industry bodies or intelligence-sharing forums

  • The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outputs in a dynamic environment

  • An inquisitive mindset, strong attention to detail and a commitment to evidence-led decision-making
