Senior Counsel/Director, Stablecoin EnablementOverviewTransfer Solutions, a business unit within Mastercard’s Commercial & New Payment Flows (CNPF) organization, delivers market-leading money movement. We are seeking a Senior Counsel/Director to lead legal support for stablecoin enablement.
This role will provide proactive, globally coordinated legal guidance to support product development, enable responsible innovation, manage regulatory and commercial risk, and deliver practical solutions for the Transfer Solutions business.
The position reports to the Senior Managing Counsel/Vice President, Cross Border Services and partners closely with Product, Technology, Operations, Treasury, Compliance, Regulatory, Commercialization, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
Role
• Serve as a trusted legal advisor for stablecoin enablement within Cross-Border Services, providing practical guidance on complex regulatory, commercial, product, and risk considerations.
• Partner with Product, Technology, Operations, Treasury, Commercialization, and other stakeholders to design, develop, and launch stablecoin-enabled solutions that meet customer needs and Mastercard standards.
• Structure, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements with financial institutions, fintechs, digital asset service providers, infrastructure providers, and strategic partners.
• Monitor, interpret, and advise on global legal developments affecting digital assets, money movement, and payments, and help shape internal policy positions in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
• Collaborate with specialists, including Regulatory, Compliance, and Competition, to identify issues early and navigate risk effectively.
• Develop and maintain legal frameworks, product guidance, playbooks, templates, and approval processes to support consistent, scalable execution of stablecoin-based solutions across markets.
• Engage and manage external counsel, as needed, to support jurisdiction-specific advice and transaction execution.
All About You
• Significant legal experience advising on payments, money movement, financial technology, product development, and commercial transactions; experience with digital assets, blockchain infrastructure, or money transmission is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to advise on multi-jurisdictional launches, partner risk, and operational controls.
• Comfort operating in emerging and evolving areas of law, with the judgment to provide clear advice where legal and regulatory frameworks are developing.
• Strong negotiation, drafting, counseling, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to simplify complexity, balance risk, and drive practical business outcomes.
• JD or equivalent legal qualification required, with active bar membership or equivalent authorization to practice law in good standing.
