About the team

The Financial Crimes Compliance team builds and oversees Airwallex’s global financial crime framework across AML/CTF, sanctions, risk assessment, FCC operations, monitoring and testing, and investigations. The team works closely with Product, Operations, Risk, Regulatory Legal & Compliance, and regional MLROs to make sure our controls are well designed, practical, and effective as Airwallex scales globally.

What you'll do

As Senior Manager, FCC Monitoring, you will help build and run the monitoring program that provides independent oversight of Airwallex’s global FCC framework. You’ll assess whether the program is working as intended, identify gaps and emerging risks, and turn that into clear actions for the business. This is a high-impact individual contributor role with a lot of autonomy. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders across FCC, Risk, Legal, Product, Operations, and leadership teams, and play an important part in giving regulators and banking partners confidence in the strength of our program.

This role is hybrid. Based in New York or San Francisco

Responsibilities:

  • Assess the ongoing effectiveness of the Group Financial Crime Program across governance, risk assessments, monitoring frameworks, issue management, regulatory reporting, and regulatory change

  • Build and embed a risk-based monitoring approach across key focus areas, including EWRA, TMP, ECDD, and SMRs

  • Monitor adherence to AML and sanctions obligations across key jurisdictions, identifying compliance gaps, emerging risks, and areas that need remediation

  • Deliver clear, useful reporting to senior leaders, governance forums, and Board stakeholders on program effectiveness, risk exposure, and remediation progress

  • Partner across FCC, MLRO, Risk, Legal, Product, Operations, and Technology teams to drive follow-through and strengthen the program over time

Who you are

We’re looking for people who meet the minimum requirements for this role. The preferred qualifications are great to have, but are not mandatory.

Minimum qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in Financial Crime Compliance, AML, sanctions, or financial crime risk management in a global financial institution, fintech, payments business, or regulatory environment

  • Deep understanding of global AML and sanctions frameworks, including regulatory expectations across the US, UK and EMEA, Australia, New Zealand, and broader APAC

  • Proven experience building or running a monitoring program and improving the effectiveness of a financial crime compliance framework over time

  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior executives, regulators, and global business leaders on complex financial crime matters

  • Strong judgment, independence, and attention to detail, with the ability to manage your own workload and operate effectively in a fast-moving environment

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with or supporting Group MLRO, Regional MLRO, or Country MLRO functions, including governance committees, regulatory engagement, and risk oversight

  • Experience in a global fintech, payments business, digital bank, or other fast-paced financial services environment

  • Risk and controls experience, with a practical understanding of how to assess program design and operating effectiveness

  • Experience preparing executive-level reporting and escalating material issues through the right governance forums

  • CAMS, ICA, or another recognized financial crime, compliance, or risk qualification
