About the Role
Acting as a key strategic partner to the Regional Director of Investment Management – Equities and Sustainable Investment, this position supports the oversight of AIA’s Sustainable Investment agenda and leads the Group-wide Sustainable Investment data and reporting strategy. By tracking and steering sustainability performance across Asset Management Companies (AMCs) and Business Units (BUs), the incumbent ensures the delivery of investment approaches that align with AIA’s corporate purpose of enabling "Healthier, Longer, Better Lives" and the company’s long-term financial and sustainability objectives.This role champions the Sustainable Investment Operating Model and advocates for accountability across a broad network of stakeholders, including BU and AMC CIOs (or equivalent), Group Board, and Group Sustainability, Risk, Compliance, and Audit functions. Furthermore, the position supports the integration of sustainability into investment mandates while representing AIA Investment externally in regulatory and industry forums, reinforcing the firm’s leadership in sustainable investment practices.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Direction-setting, prioritization and oversight:
- Support the Regional Director of Investment Management - Equities and Sustainable Investment to AIA’s overall Sustainable Investment strategic direction and initiatives, in alignment with AIA’s broader corporate priorities.
- Design and continuously improve the AIA Sustainable Investment Operating Model and enterprise-wide solutions in the context of the sustainability strategies, initiatives and public commitments of AIA and the Sustainability Committee.
- Drive the evolution of sustainability commitments, including climate targets and broader sustainability goals, by analysing market trends and internal capabilities, in collaboration with Business Unit and Asset Management Company stakeholders.
- Oversee Sustainable Investment performance across Asset Classes, Business Units, and Asset Management Companies by tracking progress relative to established commitments.
Sustainability Integration:
- Substantially contribute to embedding sustainability into the AIA Investment Operating Model, including research and investment management platforms and investee company engagement.
- Contribute to guiding Business Units on considering sustainability factors and commitments within investment mandates, particularly by steering such considerations towards supporting Group-level sustainability commitment progress on a rolled-up basis.
- Support the embedding of sustainability factors and commitments into investment decision-making processes by collaborating with the Sustainable Investment Integration team, including in establishing sustainability metrics for Portfolio Managers to measure, manage and report on.
Stewardship:
- Assist the Listed Equity Research and Stewardship COE in the planning, coordinating, executing and implementing specific and thematic sustainability engagement initiatives, and associated governance steps.
Transparency & Reporting:
- Steer AIA’s Group-wide Sustainable Investment data strategy by defining data requirements with reference to overarching strategic direction and anticipated evolution of sustainability commitments.
- Drive an integrated internal and external reporting strategy considering evolving regulatory expectations and sustainability commitments, seeking to establish and maintain consistency of data across entities and across the investment value chain.
- Safeguard the integrity and accuracy of public sustainability disclosures by implementing robust data controls and reconciling figures against internal systems and external benchmarks.
- Facilitate, coordinate and provide assistance in relation to any Investment sustainability--related disclosure, including the Sustainability Report, Annual Report and submissions to regulatory, market or industry associations such as the UN Principles for Responsible Investment.
Collaboration, Advocacy & Governance:
- Champion sustainability advocacy and accountability across AIA Investment by providing guidance and support to Business Units and Asset Management Companies.
- Facilitate, and support, Group and Business Unit stakeholders’ participation in regulatory, industry and market participants’ consultations and surveys relating to sustainability, ensuring enterprise-wide consistent messaging.
- Administer the sustainability components of the Investment Governance Framework and Investment Control Environment with respect to required controls, monitoring and reporting.
- Orchestrate the strategic agenda (in relation to Sustainable Investment) for forums including the Group Investment Committee and sub-Committees, the Sustainable Investment Management Working Group, the Quarterly Structured Dialogue with Group Sustainability and Quarterly Connect with Group Internal Audit.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- 6-9 years of related experience from financial services, professional firms, insurance and/or asset management, in relation to change management, business analysis, projects, regulatory, market and industry trends and frameworks
- Comfort and/or familiarity with
- Good command of written and spoken English
- Excellent organisational, presentation and communication skills
- Exceptional advocacy and diplomacy skills, able to handle sensitive and / or confidential conversations and topics
- Creative and open to sharing and implementing new ideas
- Sound ability to converse with, advise and influence senior level stakeholders
- Accountable for timely delivery of specified objectives and milestones
- Sound attention to detail
- Capable to work with, and analyse, large volumes and produce data-driven analysis, insights and recommendations
- Comfort and/or familiarity with research and asset management platforms (i.e., Factset RMS, Blackrock Aladdin, ISS ProxyExchange)
- Ability to deal with and handle multiple and changing priorities
- Good positive work attitude and ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively as a larger team
- Independent and strong self-initiative
- Multimedia skills advantageous
