Company Description
We’re Checkout.com. You might not know our name, but companies like eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony do, because we’re behind many of the digital experiences you use every day.
We are where the world checks out, enabling over 10 billion transactions yearly for more than one billion global shoppers.
Whether you want to book a holiday, order food, renew a subscription, or check out online, there’s a good chance our tech powers the payments behind the scenes. Our platform helps the most ambitious businesses deliver effortless digital experiences, at scale.
If you want to do career-defining work, you’ve come to the right place. We move fast, think globally, and believe great teams are built by hiring exceptional people with conviction, curiosity, and the desire to make an impact.
With 20 offices across six continents and London as our HQ, we’re shaping the future of fintech – and we’re just getting started.
About the team
You'll join the Financial Crime product team within our Risk and Compliance domain — the team that decides who Checkout does business with and protects the company and our merchants from money laundering and other financial crime. We build the transaction monitoring, sanctions and screening technology behind those decisions. You'll own transaction monitoring, backed by a team of engineers.
The role
Reporting to our Group Product Manager for Risk and Compliance, you’ll own Checkout.com’s AML transaction-monitoring product: the technology that helps us identify suspicious activity across billions of payment & events while helping investigators focus on the risks that matter most.
We recently brought our monitoring in-house, giving you meaningful control over its direction. You’ll need to lead its next stage, improving detection quality, reducing unnecessary alerts, strengthening investigation workflows and scaling the platform for new products and customer segments.
This is a high-impact, data-intensive platform role where success is measured through stronger risk coverage, better detection precision and materially less manual work.
What you'll do
Own the product strategy, roadmap and outcomes for AML transaction monitoring.
Lead the lifecycle of monitoring controls, from risk hypothesis and data assessment through design, testing, calibration, deployment and ongoing performance management.
Use rules, analytics, machine learning and LLM-based techniques to improve detection while reducing false positives.
Improve the case-management and decision-support tools used by investigation teams.
Partner with Engineering, Data Science, Operations and Compliance, balancing regulatory obligations, operational capacity and customer impact.
Navigate a fast-moving, still-maturing compliance environment. Pushing technical and organisational change forward without losing momentum.
Scale the platform to support Checkout’s evolving products, markets and customer segments.
What success looks like
Investigation teams spend substantially less time reviewing low-value cases
Monitoring identifies a greater proportion of meaningful suspicious activity
New controls can be tested, governed and launched quickly and safely.
We are an enabler for new product launches and other emerging use cases.
You've brought false-positive rates down, while increasing the share of risky patterns we detect.
You are the trusted product owner who creates alignment across Product, Engineering, Operations and Compliance.
Skills and experience
Proven product management experience in a fast-moving environment shipping data-driven or risk products, in fintech, payments or other sectors where “catching the bad guys” matters.
A strong grasp of risk, false positives and operational monitoring workflows, with the analytical instinct to reason about detection and trade-offs.
Comfort working hand-in-hand with engineering to build and iterate on core backend platforms.
Resilience and influence: you keep driving change constructively when processes are imperfect or ambiguous and you’ve had your fair share in making them better
You use data, insights and machine learning or LLM models to set priorities and improve performance.
You communicate clearly, simplifying complex concepts for engineering, compliance, operations and commercial audiences.
We don't expect every box ticked. If you meet most of these and are excited by the mission, we'd love to hear from you.
Nice to have
Direct experience in fraud, financial crime, AML transaction monitoring or sanctions and screening.
Launched (or tried to) LLM agents that automate operational work including decisioning
Experience scaling risk products into segments such as SMB, consumer or crypto.
