Tax Accountant
Varney & Associates, CPAs has an excellent career opportunity for a Tax Accountant to join our tax team. This position is based in Kansas, with in‑office, hybrid, or remote work options available. As a Tax Accountant, you will work closely with clients across a variety of industries to help them navigate complex tax matters, remain compliant with federal and state tax laws, and make informed financial decisions. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and other entities
- Assist in developing effective tax strategies to support client goals and minimize tax exposure
- Ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations, staying current on tax law changes
- Provide proactive tax planning and advisory support, including identifying tax‑saving opportunities
- Conduct tax research and analysis to address client questions and support compliance and planning efforts
- Assist clients in understanding the tax implications of various business and financial decisions
- Identify potential tax risks and recommend solutions aligned with firm standards and best practices
- Collaborate with team members and other service lines to deliver consistent, high‑quality client service
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive communication and dependable execution
- Support seasonal workflow demands, including meeting busy‑season deadlines
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- CPA license preferred, but not required
- 3+ years of experience preparing individual and business tax returns, Trust tax experience a plus
- Strong knowledge of federal and state tax compliance
- Demonstrated attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain tax concepts clearly
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
- Proficient with Windows‑based systems, Microsoft Office, and tax software; QuickBooks experience a plus
- Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and continuous learning
