Position: Mortgage Loan Collector
Department: Collections – Emigrant Mortgage Company
Reports To: Manager, Collections
Employment Status: Full Time, Nonexempt
Job Summary:
The Mortgage Loan Collector is responsible for managing delinquent residential mortgage accounts and working directly with borrowers to resolve past-due obligations. This position will monitor assigned loan portfolios, conduct collection activities, establish appropriate repayment arrangements, and maintain accurate documentation of all borrower interactions and account activity.
Job Specific Responsibilities and Duties:
- Monitor queue, call delinquent borrowers, and send delinquent notices to borrowers
- Gather pertinent information to determine loss mitigation options that might be suitable for individual borrowers.
- Service a multi-state delinquent mortgage loan portfolio from early stage delinquency up until submission to Foreclosure.
- Make daily calls to borrowers/mortgagors, using empathic listening skills to build mutual understanding and determine their reason for delinquency and financial ability to pay.
- Documenting all incoming and outgoing mortgage collections efforts using an online collection system.
- Negotiating short term repayment plans with delinquent borrowers and referring loans to our Loss Mitigation Department for review of long-term repayment plans, home retention or non-home retention options.
- Reviewing mortgage loan documents to prepare and mail demand letters and legal notices – this skill is worth mentioning, but not required and will be taught in detail.
- Review and approve the application of payments received from borrowers
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four year college or university.
- One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination and experience.
- Possess basic knowledge of CFBP rules and regulations with regard to collections and loss mitigation options.
- Understand bankruptcy 7, 11, & 13 filings (application of payments, filing POC and basic comprehension of notices).
- Understand credit reporting and credit corrections (knowledge of E-Oscar filings is a plus).
- Knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act (FDCPA) and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) policies and regulations with respects to servicing mortgage loans.
- Knowledge of Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), e-OSCAR and Metro 2 formatting required for handling consumer credit disputes submitted to Credit Bureaus (Experian, TransUnion, Equifax, and Innovis) by routing Automated Consumer Dispute Verification (ACDVs) to the Lender for review, update or deletion.
- Strong understanding of Mortgages and familiar with the origination, terms and repayment structure.
