Officer, Syndicated Loan Operations Analyst, Operationsnew

Citi (Citi) · Other

Role Overview

The Wholesale Lending Operations Servicing & Booking Intermediate Analyst (C11) sits within the Loan Agency and Loan Operations teams at Citigroup Global Markets Japan Inc. and is targeted at Officer level and below. This is a hands-on operational role where the primary focus is on Loan Agency functions — the successful candidate will be expected to act as a core member of the Loan Agency Team, taking ownership of syndicated loan servicing responsibilities across the full deal lifecycle.

Beyond the agency mandate, the candidate will also be called upon to support the Loan Operations team on an ongoing basis — particularly in the areas of deal booking, journal entry (JE) processing, and general ledger management. The role additionally offers exposure to system enhancement initiatives, where the candidate will collaborate with operations and technology colleagues to help shape and improve the platforms and tools that power Wholesale Lending Operations.

This position is an excellent opportunity for junior professionals who are motivated to build deep expertise in the syndicated lending space while gaining meaningful cross-functional experience. The successful candidate handles most day-to-day operational challenges independently, applies structured analytical thinking, and escalates appropriately when required. Citi is committed to building a future-ready operations team, and candidates who embrace innovation — including the adoption of AI-assisted tools — are strongly encouraged to apply.

The individual must be accountable, ethical, results-oriented, trustworthy, and credible.

This job description provides a high-level review of the types of work performed. Other job-related duties may be assigned as required.

Key Responsibilities
Loan Agency — Syndicated Loan Deal Cycle (Primary Focus)
Manage end-to-end Loan Agency operations across the full syndicated loan deal cycle, including deal origination support, drawdown processing, rollover management, repayment, fee settlement, and deal closure.
Prepare, review, and maintain loan documentation in accordance with credit agreements, facility letters, and applicable regulatory requirements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with Citi policies.
Act as the primary operational contact between the Loan Agency team and internal stakeholders — including Relationship Managers, Credit, Legal, and Finance — as well as external lenders and borrowers throughout the syndication lifecycle.
Coordinate and communicate agent bank functions, including distribution of notices, interest rate resets, lender allocations, and fee distributions to syndicate members.
Monitor deal covenants and compliance requirements; escalate exceptions or breaches through appropriate governance channels in a timely and structured manner.
Manage amendment, waiver, and consent processes, coordinating required lender approvals and documentation updates throughout the deal lifecycle.
Maintain accurate loan records and deal registers; ensure all agency-related data is properly captured and updated in loan systems including LoanIQ.
Loan Operations — Deal Booking, JE & System Enhancement (Supporting Role)
Assist the Loan Operations team with day-to-day transactional processing, including deal booking in internal systems (including LoanIQ where applicable), cash transaction recording, payment processing, and position updates.
Input and maintain journal entries (JE) and general ledger (GL) entries with precision; support complex interest and fee calculations across multi-currency and multi-tranche loan structures.
Conduct loan reconciliations — including position, cash, and nostro reconciliations — as required, identifying and resolving breaks in accordance with established procedures.
Participate in system enhancement projects, collaborating with operations and technology teams to assess current workflows, identify improvement opportunities, and support the implementation of upgraded tools and platforms within the Wholesale Lending Operations environment.
Contribute to user acceptance testing (UAT), process documentation, and change management activities associated with system upgrades or new platform rollouts.
Support audit and control activities related to loan processing and booking; adhere to all applicable internal control and compliance frameworks.
Risk, Controls & Stakeholder Engagement
Proactively identify, mitigate, escalate, and manage operational risks and issues related to loan documentation, processing, and servicing activities.
Follow and continuously improve established procedures, adhering to audit, control, regulatory compliance, and Citi internal policy frameworks.
Maintain direct interaction with external customers and counterparties, disseminating or explaining loan-related information clearly and professionally.
Utilize strong communication, interpersonal, and diplomatic skills to interact with colleagues, senior stakeholders, and external parties — including when exchanging complex or sensitive information.
Actively engage with AI-assisted tools and digital initiatives as part of Citi's continued investment in operations modernization; support the team in identifying opportunities where automation and AI can improve quality, speed, and accuracy.
Timely management and escalation of all requests and issues related to loan processing and servicing.

Candidate Requirements
Experience & Knowledge
More than 4 years of relevant experience at a financial institution; prior exposure to syndicated lending, loan agency operations, or loan operations is advantageous but not mandatory for strong candidates demonstrating a commitment to development.
Reasonable knowledge of business processes, systems, and tools used in the loan process, including deal booking workflows, GL/JE entry principles, loan reconciliation practices, and cash settlement.
Awareness of managing, preparing, and reviewing loan documentation, including credit agreements, facility letters, and agent bank notices within a syndicated loan context.
Familiarity with LoanIQ (Finastra LoanIQ) or equivalent loan management systems is a significant advantage; candidates with hands-on LoanIQ experience in deal booking, servicing, or reconciliation are strongly preferred.
