About the Opportunity:
As a Senior Client Relationship Manager (SCRM) within Canadian Commercial Banking at Scotiabank, you will play a key role in supporting the growth and success of Canadian businesses in the core segment with annual sales between $25MM and $100MM. You will drive new business acquisitions and optimize profitable portfolio growth, leveraging exceptional relationship management, financial insight, and collaboration with internal partners to deliver the full capabilities of the Bank.
In this role, you will act as a strategic advisor to clients with high complex needs, leading high-value client conversations, shaping tailored solutions, and helping clients navigate opportunities, solve complex challenges, and unlock their next stage of growth. You will also play a key role in managing portfolio performance and risk, while building a strong market presence.
How You Will Make an Impact:
- Build trusted relationships with Canadian businesses, acting as a key advisor on their growth and financial needs.
- Drive new business and optimize profitable portfolio growth through proactive prospecting, networking, client planning, and disciplined pipeline management.
- Develop and execute market and client strategies that maximize business development opportunities within the Bank’s risk appetite.
- Deliver tailored banking solutions by connecting clients to the full capabilities of Scotiabank.
- Lead complex, value-added client conversations, leveraging financial analysis, market insight and client analytics to uncover opportunities and shape solutions.
- Apply sound commercial judgement to evaluate opportunities, navigate trade-offs, and make well-reasoned recommendations that balance client outcomes, risk consideration and Bank priorities.
- Lead and coordinate partners across the Bank to design integrated client solutions, influence outcomes and deliver coordinated value for clients.
- Manage and grow a commercial portfolio of moderate to higher complexity, balancing relationship development with sound credit, risk, and compliance practices.
- Lead and shape deal structuring and credit execution in partnership with credit teams for authorizations between $5MM and $35MM.
- Build a strong presence in the local market through community engagement, centres of influence, industry networking, and strong market awareness.
What You will Bring to the Team:
Must-have
- Education: Undergraduate, degree in Business or Economics or work equivalency.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience within Commercial Banking and business development, in the banking/financial industry or have demonstrated success managing client relationships, originating opportunities, and delivering commercial banking solutions in a complex business environment.
- Proven ability to drive complex business development and manage a portfolio with a strong focus on profitability, pricing discipline, and long-term client value.
- Strong commercial acumen, including pricing discipline and the ability to manage risk-return trade-offs across a portfolio.
- A proactive, self-starter approach with strong organization, prioritization, and networking skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate complex financial risks and business concepts clearly to clients, partners and senior stakeholders, tailoring messages to support informed decision-making.
- Sound credit and risk judgment, with the ability to structure and assess more complex lending opportunities and provide well-reasoned recommendations.
- Strong financial and analytical acumen, with the ability to interpret complex financials, identify opportunities, and shape client strategy.
- Ability to conduct due diligence on client financials for deals of moderate to higher complexity.
- Strong knowledge of commercial lending and deposit products, with the ability to structure integrated financial solutions and understand client profitability drivers.
- Ability to travel within the assigned market, with access to a vehicle.
- A well-established network of centres of influence within the local business and professional community.
Nice-to-have
- Experience working with mid-market clients in more complex, multi-product banking relationships.
- Familiarity with financial analysis and credit structuring for commercial lending opportunities of moderate to higher complexity.
- Understanding of local market dynamics and key industries within your region.
