Chubb is seeking a Claim Director on the Environmental Claims team. The Environmental team is part of Chubb Environmental Claims and provides specialized claim handling of first- party and third-party voluntary pollution claims. The Claim Director will report directly to an Environmental Claims Manager. The Environmental Claims is part of Chubb Severity North America Claims.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Day to day handling of substantial caseload of line of business claims.
Evaluates information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine the extent of insured's exposure.
Directs and monitors assignments to experts and underlying defense counsel.
Developing and executing claim resolution strategies.
Actively manages environmental consultants and/or litigation counsel throughout the claim lifecycle.
Recognize significant potential exposures on claims and prepare appropriate alerts to senior managers and our internal business partners.
Provide exceptional service to our internal and external business partners.
Analyzes and identifies coverage issues timely coverage, preparing comprehensive coverage letters and communicates coverage positions to appropriate parties.
Directs and closely monitors cases with financial impact from inception through trial/resolution.
Timely sets reserves within authority or makes claim recommendations concerning reserve changes to management.
Presenting litigation strategy for complex litigation to senior claims management and underwriting staff.
Developing resolution strategies and negotiating settlements.
Travels to conferences, arbitrations, mediations and trials as necessary.
Qualifications:
In depth knowledge of environmental and casualty.
1-3 years of direct claims handling experience.
Environmental specialists strongly preferred.
Proactive oversight and management of environmental primary and excess claims.
An ability to work independently and assimilate learning materials on different subjects from various sources.
Conduct complex investigations and extensive review of claims files to determine coverage, liability for risk transfer or to identify risk transfer opportunities.
Highly organized and able to respond to insureds and internal and external business partners in a timely manner.
Ability to self-motivate and self-start.
Must be able to effectively work in a team environment.
Excellent interpersonal communications and negotiation skills; and an ability to deal with customers and business partners in a professional manner.
Ability to make prompt, intelligent decisions based upon detailed analysis of complex issues.
Demonstrated strong relational skills, particularly in adverse or high-pressure situations.
A law degree is not necessary but recommended.

The pay range for the role is $94,600 to $136,400. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program. Chubb offers a comprehensive benefits package, more details on which can be found on our careers website. The disclosed pay range estimate may be adjusted for the applicable geographic differential for the location in which the position is filled.
