The Director and Head, Data, Models and AI provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight for AML data, models, and AI teams globally, ensuring AML strategies, plans, and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures. Supports the Bank’s business strategy by proactively identifying risks to Keep Bank Safe. Leads the development of the data, models, and AI strategy and roadmap, mobilization of the data domain, and connects into critical transformation and remediation initiatives to provide input from a data, modeling, and analytics perspective.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Lead and drive a client-focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Build and manage a team of data, modeling, and AI professionals. This team will take responsibility for building, testing, tuning, optimizing, and documenting a range of models as part of the Bank AML program. 
  • Anticipate deliverables include AI and machine learning models, and agents for ongoing monitoring, screening, and investigations aligned to AML Strategy – Data and Technology Target State vision.
  • Ensures that model development framework complies with both internal and external standards.
  • Work with various stakeholders, including the Enterprise Data Management Office and Enterprise Technology, to articulate the Enterprise-wide vision, strategy, and roadmap for the AML data domain and data product, which includes:
    • Key initiatives required to mobilize the domain and sub-domains (e.g. Ongoing Monitoring, Screening, and Investigations).
    • Link to other new and existing initiatives with heavy data requirements.
    • Overall view on sequencing and timing of data, modelling and analytics initiatives.
    • Defining data domain scope and structure, data elements / critical data elements, and data quality rules for data consumed by AML.
    • Overseeing the process to establish business, technical, and operational metadata and data lineage for data belonging to the AML domain.
    • Overseeing data quality management for data belonging to the AML domain and designing remediation plans.
    • Executing data remediation plans with the appropriate team (e.g., frontline owners of applications, IT&S) as required.
  • Enable data and data governance capabilities across the AML program:
    • Understand what data is required.
    • Ensure standard definitions across data elements and across CB, IB, Wealth and GBM.
    • Provide oversight on data availability, and implementation of data quality controls.
    • Ensure impact to existing data is identified and addressed in accordance with data standards.
  • Collaborate closely with the Enterprise Data Office to ensure compliance with data management policies and standards.
  • Participate in other assignments as directed by the VP, AML Data, Models and AI.
  • Build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; manage succession and development planning for the team.
  • Direct day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicate the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
  • Create an environment in which the group pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF and Sanctions policies, and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:

 

  • 10+ years in a management role.
  • Understanding how data, models and AI enable AML business solutions/processes.
  • Experience managing a team of modelers and developers.
  • Experience with statistical modeling and data science methods.
  • Understanding of data platforms, cloud solutions, and AML systems/solutions.
  • Knowledge of AML business solutions / processes is preferred.
  • Familiarity with data management and domain structure is preferred.
  • Strong ability to influence/communicate with stakeholders across functions and at all levels (BU, IT, executives).
  • Strong leadership and project management experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (all related fields that support data, modeling, and AI).
